Russellville Edges Roachdale In County Kickoff, 58 To 57
A twenty second desperation shot fired by uncanny marksman Ron Richardson gave the Russellville Be . the mighty one point victory margin over the Roachdale Hawks in last night's Putnam County kickoff tilt. In a slow starting first period of action both teams cautiously fought t'.eir way up the scoring column. Russellville grabbed a small edge in the early first minutes taking advantage of Roachdale's unexpected fullcourt press. As the buzzer sounded to close the first period Russellville held the advantage by four. 18- 14. After a quick six point outburst by the Bees a trailing Hawk squad called time-out. Following revision of strategy, Wagner and Hill pumped the buckets for seven badly needed points while the Bees connected j on a couple of free throws and a fast break, cutting the Russellville margin to three. Two minutes of play passing and the score standing at 3027 Hawk Clones dropped in a j free throw and a ten-footer with 1:47 remaining in the half. Holding his own. Russellville pivot man Hurst dropped in a free throw only to be equalled by a 15 foot jumper by Hawk forward Chris Snodgrass putting the score on and even keel for the first time in the tilt,
31-31.
Always present scoring threat Ron Richardson then drove the length of the court and popped in another one as the buzzer sounded ending the first half with Rusodlville leading 33-31.

Bobsled Team In Top Shape ST. MORITZ, Switzerland UPI—With the world two-man bobsled championship only a day away, the defending British team of Tony Nash and Robin Dixon is in peak form and the top American tandem of Larry McKillip and Charlie Hoffer is in a quandry. The championships are slated for Saturday and Sunday on the twsiting mile-long run here which has been nothing but fun for the British pair and something less than that for the Americans. Nash and Dixon, who won the Olympic two-man title at Innsbruck, Austria, just a year ago, easily shattered the course record Thursday with a clocking of one minute, 17.96 secondsalmost two full seconds faster than the 19.65 set by John Blockey and Mike Freeman o' Bntian on Monday.

Speculation raged on whether Bowman, a pillar in Witchita’s success, and Davis will get back on the team for the second half of the season.

"WE WON!" These Russellville students show just a little of the excitement that reigned at the end of the Russellville-Roachdale tilt Thursday night. Russellville squeaked by the Hawks 57-58 as the first game of the 1965 Putnam County Tourney comes to an end. The gentleman holding the rope is not a Roachdale fan feeling the blues.
