Cascade Romps Over Cub Net Squad, 93-68

Cascade started the season being the product of the statewide consolidation. They were the team no one knew much about. Friday night, the Hendricks County team took on one one of the best teams in Putnam County and handed them their worst defeat since the MrCracken reign began in 1963. The Greencastle Tiger Cubs dropped back to a 6-6 overall record with the 93-68 loss to the Cadets. The brand of ball that the Cascade quintet played against the Cubs was such as could be | seen of the Cubs of old. An extremely cautious offense coupled with a tight zone defense held off the Greencastle attacks through the encounter. Rodger Beck, whom the Cadet players call “Baby Huey”, knocked down enough rebounds to keep Ron Blotch and Jim Chadd low in the column. Call it a bad night for Greencastle or call it a slump, it was a bitter pill for the Cubs to swallow. The Cubs trailed into the fatal second quarter 16-20 and dropped even further under a relentless Cadet attack. Leading as much as sixteen points in the second stanza the Cascade squad kept the Tigers from using their claws. The half-time intermission caught the Cubs even further behind, 31-46. With 14:13 left in the game the Cadets aggregation went into a 19 point lead and the Cubs went to the press. The combinations didn’t w'ork out and the Cubs went into the final eight minutes with a 4672 deficit. Ron Blotch sparked what looked like a Cub rally grabbing a quick four points in the opening seconds. Cascade called time out, revised their strategy and continued to roll up the score. Surprisingly enough it wasn't the charity line that made the difference. Cascade hit 29 for 45 free throws for a 64.4 percentage. Greencastle hit 20 of 31 attempts copping a 64.5 per-
