9 The Daily Banner, Greencastle, Indiana Thursday, January 7, 1965 Exam Time Is Near For Many Students

By United Press Internotional Examination time is around the corner for a large number of students. There are still opportunities to study and earn' additional points and higher i grades. Students should take advantage of every available chance. During the remaining class

sessions, teachers will be summarizing, completing units and projects, and generally emphasizing important points. Careful listening may provide some helpful hints for the approaching exams. An attentive student can often determine which facts and ideas the teacher feels are

particularly important by being aware of what is emphasized. Careful study of these points can be most helpful on exams. A plan for studying Should be made now. Last minute study' ing is too limiting and fatiguing. It is surely not the best approach. The student should set up a calendar which allows reasonable study periods for each exam. Time should also be arranged to allow periods of rest and relaxation. Study periods should be scheduled when a quiet uninterrupted time i s available. Don’t try to study when the house is noisy or when there are other distractions.

What should be studied? A student who has been conscientious during the year may only need to review the work. Others may have to do more extensive studying. Only t|ie individual student knows how much work will be necessary. The two best sources for reviewing are notes on class lectures and discussions, and the assigned textbooks and supplementary reading. A student can be sure that the teacher has spent class time on those areas of greatest importance. A careful review of class notes is essential. The textbooks and supplementary books can be reviewed

by reading the introductory and summary sections of each chapter. This assumes that the book has been previously read. More detailed reading may be needed on important sections. One technique in all reviewing is to anticipate possible questions. The student should attempt to search for material which would be ideal for a test question. He can then think in terms of the answers. The most important part of studying for an exam is organization. A plan must be arranged of all available resource material.
