You don’t think there* a Santa Claus, eh? Well, the Shriners and the Optimist Culb were worried whether or not Santa could make a complete round of visits Christmas Eve, so members contacted the old gentleman and made arrangements for him to visit several families before his scheduled arrival. Santa made 500 pre-Christmas visits without the parents knowing anything about it.
A man we know was sounding off on his coffee break the other morning about night driving. One of his biggest dislikes was the driver who neglects to dim his lights. He also voiced his opinion about traffic lights. Nothing irritated him more than driving in a strange town at night and have the traffic lights hidden behind neon signs or amid a glare of red and or green lights. It was especially bad at Christmas time, he said, when the red and green Christmas decorations hang low to the street.

Casualty Report By Vietnamese SAIGON UPI — Vietnamese government forces suffered a record 442 casualties in the seven - day battle of Binh Gia, the Defense Ministry said today. The toll included 19 Americans killed, wounded or missing. The American casualty toll also was another record for a single battle against the Communist Viet Cong guerrillas. A U. S. military spokesman today revealed two additional American casualties. He said two U. S. Marines were wounded Sunday while flying Vietnamese soldiers to a battle area 330 miles northeast of Saigon. Neither of the two enlisted Marines was wounded seriously enough to require hospitalization. The spokesman said one Vietnamese soldier was killed and another wounded after leaping from the Marine helicopters in the same action. The Binh Gia battle, 40 miles southeast of Saigon, continued sporadically from Dec. 28 through Jan. 3.

This same gentleman suggested that perhaps a law i should be passed allowing only i establishments remaining open after dark to keep their neon signs on. All others, he said, could turn their signs off thirty minutes after their normal closing time. Either that, or make the stop signs larger and hang them over the intersection where they could be seen.. Now there's a suggestion.

SPEAKING OF MONEY by Randall Collins Many people ask about the 1943 Lincoln penny. This coiij, more commonly called the “Lead penny” was struck in 1943 at the Denver, Philidelphia, and San Francsico Mints. Owing to a shortage of copper during World War II the U. S. Treasury decided to change the metal content to steel with a thin zinc coating. These coins were very unpopular since they could easily be mistaken for the 10c piecd: They also had a tendency to rust from the slightest moisture. In circulation the coin soon became black and ugly as the protective zinc coating wore
away.
The steel issues are very scarce in choice uncirculated condition presently. Some older collectors boast of having these by the roll which were taken out of circulation back in ‘43. Yeoman’s Redbook indicates a retail price of $1.00 for the Philidelphia mint in uncirculat-

According to one source of information people living on the west side of town live in a colder area than those living on the east side. This bit of information is founded on the fact that the temperature gauge atop the Greencastle Savings and Loan is colder than the gauge on the First Citizens Building. Perhaps this is because of the “cold cash” in the Savings and Loan vault.
