Roachdale Library News Several fine books have been given, recently, to the Roachdale Public Library. Two of these, “The Angel and the Ser- | pent” by William E. Wilson and "The Horizon History of Christianity” were the gift of the Philomath Club, and "The International Cyclopedia of Music I and Musicians” was given by : Mrs. Charles Graham in memj ory of Mrs. Bess Dean. This is the ninth edition of a standard work, edited by Oscar Thompson, and is an important addition to the Library’s reference resources. The combination of critical studies with the
most recent Information on music and musicians makes this book extremely useful to students of music. “The Horizon History of Music” traces the heritage of the Christmas tradition from its roots in the Jewish and classical past to the present day. The narative is by Roland Bainton. widely respected as a scholar and author in the field of ecclasiastical history. This handsome book is illustrated with more than 450 works of art, of which 150 are in color. William £7. Wilson, author of “The Angel and the Forest; the Story of New Harmony,” is Professor of History at Indiana University. He lived, as a child.
in Evansville and visited frequently in New Harmony. This study of the scene of the social experiments of George Rapp and Robert Owen coinsides with the sesquicentennial of the founding of New Harmony in 1814. Two other books by Indiana authors have also been added to the Library shelves. “True Indian Stories” by Jacob Piatt Dunn is a new printing of a book first published in 1908. The author was a former Indiana State Librarian and Secretary of the Indiana Historical Society. An index glossary of Indiana Indian names contains valuable information. An Indianapolis attorney, Alan T. Nolan, is the author of
an exciting novel "As Sounding Brass” based on a true episode, and with an Indianapolis locale. This is Mr. Nolan's first novel. He is the author of a popular Civil War history, “The Iron Brigade.”
O'Dwyer In Hospital NEW YORK UPI — Former New York Mayor William O'Dwyer suffered a mild heart attack Monday night and was admitted to Beth Israel Hospital. A hospital spokesman said O'Dwyer was in satisfactory condition. He said the former ambassador to Mexico was conscious and aware of lua surroundinges.
