Humphrey has said he will resign his Senate seat before Jan. 1, but declined to set a
date.
The appointment of an inter- ! im successor would be made by Democrtaic Gov. Karl F. Rol-
j vaag.
Several leading Democrats are among the prospects, including the governor himself, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman, a former Minnesota governor; and state Atty. eGn. Walter Mondale. Humphrey's current Senate term runs through 1966. An aide of Rolvaag said the governor has not yet made up his mind about the appointment but will “act soon, perhaps within a week,” to give the new
senator a seniority jump on other new senators.

Services For H. S. Students NEW CASTLE UPI — Be- | fore school religious services for i students at New Castle Junior High School will begin Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran ! Church here. The Rev. Allen Bietz, pastor of the church located across the street from the school, said Thursday he decided to hold the special services at 7:30 a. m. two days a week because of the U.S. Supreme Court’s school prayer decision and what he called a general lack of religion in everyday life. The 40-minute services will be held on Monday and Thursday and will end five minutes before school starts. Bietz said his church is not trying to “steal sheep” from other denominations but is offering the services as a service to students. Ministers at the First Methodist Church and the First Baptist Church, both also located near schools, said they w r ould keep close watch on the program and might schedule similar services if it is successful.
