LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
TO THE EDITOR: | I didn’t bother to measure the letter to the editor in your Oct. 28 issue, but I do have a response. So we Republicans have no candidate for the presidency this year? Well, I say we do— Barry Goldwater — a man who will not be replaced for many a year to come. So men of stature such as Keating, Romney, Rockefeller, Scranton, Lodge, Nixon and Eisenhower are opposed to him? Who says they are men of stature? Most of these men are out for their own political gains. Just this morning, Romney admitted on televis-
ion that he was not even concerned with the national elec- j tion. I don’t even classify him
as a Republican.
What is wrong with turning ! back the calendar, politically ? Our forefathers would turn over in their graves if they could ! know how spineless we have
become.
No. Barry Goldwater doesn’t like the situation in Viet Nam. Neither do I. I have a son-in-law in the Army and if he is sent over there, I suppose we are not to worry. He may be killed, but it is only a situation. He would only leave a wife and a child and a few relatives to grieve, and what is that compared to a few
votes ?
You're darned right 99 percent of the foreign press opj pose Goldwater because they know if he is elected they may have a hard time trying to

Wake up before Nov. 3! Rose Marie Covert
| TO THE EDITOR: ATTENTION AMERICANS This message is directed especially to those of you who quake with fear at the thought ! of Senator Goldwater as President. Probably any lip-service I might devote to the cause of conservatism would not move you. Therefore I proudly submit | the following quotation from ; the gx-eatest American of the 20th century, General Douglas
MacArthur: “Be not deceived by strange voices heard across the land, decrying this old and proven convery beginning it has been the cept of patriotism. From the main bulwark of our national strength and integrity. “Seductive murmurs are arising that it is now outmoded by more comprehensive and allembracing philosophy; that we are provincial and immature, or reactionary and stupid when we idealize our own country; that there is a higher destiny for us under another more general flag; that no longer when we send our sons and daughters to the battlefield must we see them through all the way to victory; that we can call upon them to fight and even to die in some half-hearted and indecesive effort. “Repudiate them in the market place, on the platform, from the pulpit. These who are our friends will understand. Those who are not we can pass by. Be proud to be called patriots or nationalists or what you will, if it means that you love your country above all else, and will place your life if need be at the service of our flag. “He who dares to die, who lays his life on the altar of this nation’s need, is beyond doubt the noblest development of mankind. In this he comes closest to the image of his Creator who died on the cross that the human soul might live.” C.H.D.
America. The exhibits at DePauw University are individually chosen by our art staff and are not only statewide but of national and international significance. They are arranged, shipped, placed on exhibit, and publicized at no small expense to the University and to the Art Center. I cannot emphasize too much the value of this cultural impact on the lives of the students, faculty, administration, alumni, parents, and people in the Greencastle community who conscientiously attend these exhibits. During a student’s four years at DePauw he will haVe the opportunity of studying over fifty of these exhibitions. I wish personally to thank our art staff at DePauw University for the generous contribution of time and effort beyond their teaching responsibilities so that DePauw . might make the strongest possible creative contribution, _ not only to its art students but tb the
entire campus and community. In addition to these free exhibitions' and free lectures by outstanding authorities in .the art field, DePauw has secured about twenty excellent motion pictures which are shown at no charge to the public every Friday afternoon at three-thirty. , Let us again extend a warm welcome to the campus family and to the members of the comfnunity to attend these movies, exhibits, and, lectures. The Art Center is open Mondays through Fridays from 8:06 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.; on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and on Sundays from. 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tours for schools and special groups may be arranged by contacting the Art Center, DePauw University. • • A. COUNTY CROP IN ACTION
This will be happening all over the county in the coming days and weeks as the Putnam County CROP campaign draws closer. Pictured above are John Cash and Lois Zeiner of Fillmore with Bert Miller, operator of the Farm Bureau Co-op elevator in Fillmore. Men like these will be canvassing the various township areas, and then taking the grain to elevators for our CROP project. If you would like to make a CROP donation while you are taking your grain to the elevator, tell the elevator operator to credit CROP with so many bushel of corn, and this amount will be given to the CROP campaign, and withdrawn from your corn load. CROP food is distributed directly through Church World Service to any mission station of any denomination in the world. Since 1947, CROP has distributed over $14 million of food, and paid the transportation costs for $58 million of government food. The goal for Putnam County is $1500. Personal contributions of money for CROP can be sent in care of Rev. Claude McClure, Greencastle, or Rev. George Pyke, Fillmore. Photo by Martin Kruse
To the Editor: For a number of years since the Art Center has moved to the campus, our art staff has personally arranged between ten and twelve exhibitions annually. I hasten to add that these are not the typical, “canned” shows that come from the large museums or agencies, as is the case of ninety per cent of the educational institutions in
