Voter Registration To Set New High In State

Queen Enjoying Visit In Canada CHARLETTON. P.E.I. UPI — Queen Elizabeth today will take part in a special program for children, dance at a royal ball tonight and sail into the midnight blue aboard a luxurious yacht with fireworks bursting overhead.

The Prince Edward Islanders. who have obviously taken her to heart, have had only one complaint: They can’t see her in the sleek, bullet-proof-and closed-limousine made necessary by threats from extremist separatists. Today she will step from the car for her most "exposed” day tour — just for the children. Thousands of them will fill stands as the Queen and Prince Philip appear on a dias within easy view.

On The Upswing INDIANAPOLIS UPI — Mumps. measels, whooping cough and chickenpox were on the upswing last week after a let-up during the summer months.

INDIANAPOLIS UPI — Anapparent record high in voter registration was being tabulated in Indiana today, following the Monday midnight deadline. Netiher Republican nor Democratic state headquarters had any exact totals by mid-day. But Republican state Committee Secretary James T. Neal estimated the total would be "just a little under three mil-

lion."

He said the registration in 1960 was about 2.650,000 and normal population growth plus

Neal said he did think that several voters registration law changes are needed. He proposed that if the present 12-hour period the polls are open is not sufficient that a law should be enacted adding three hours to the time the polls are open. But

rioting, the increased number of thefts, rapes, and fights indicate a definite weakness in society. A weakness that has been encouraged, mind you, by the present administration. The freedom to be able to walk American streets without being attacked should be guaranteed and the government and its leaders should set the proper examples which they have, up to this time, failed to do."

Johnson’s spending. Johnson’s deficit spending has grown some 450 million dollars in some 11 months of office. The dollar value has spiraled up, up, up becoming less and less as it soars higher. Barry junior then said: "Wc are fighting a tough campaign. But the supporters, the people who work for Goldwater really work. They are ready to support this man. They are ready to get up and cheer about him. But you don’t see anybody getting up and cheering about Johnson. You don’t see anybody really enthusiastic about him.

Golden Orange-Pear Compote

This election is an important election. We don’t have any naive beliefs about it — we know that we are the underdogs. But my father has been behind before in Senate races, and he knows that it takes work to be successful. But we are confident, we will win.

1 tablespoon cornstarch V* teaspoon ground cloves Dash of cinnamon

Dash of salt

1 bottle (7 ounces) 7-Up 1 tablespoon lemoa juice

J/2 cup apricot jam

1 tablespoon butter or

margarine

3 fresh pears (or 6 canned

pear halves)

2 oranges, sectioned

WTiipped cream or vanilla

ice cream

Combine cornstarch, cloves, cinnamon and salt. Add a little 7-Up, blending to form a smooth paste._ Add remaining 7-Up, lemon juice and jam. Cook and §tir until thickened and clear, stirring constantly; remove from heat and add butter. Halve and core pears or drain canned pear halves. Arrange pears and orange sections in a compote or individual serving dishes. _'Iop with hot sauce and whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

Sprinkle with cinnamon. Makes 6 servings.
