Labor Council Hears Humphrey NEW YORK UPI — Sen. Hubert Humphrey today called on Sen. Barry Goldwater to clarify his position on “the inevitability of World War III.” brinkmanship and Social Security. Humphrey accused the GOP presidental nominee in a •peech prepared for delivery at the New York City Central Labor Council of giving the voting
public “neither a choice nor an echo .but a baffling, bewildering blur,” on major issues. Humphrey* quoted a number of statements attributed to Goldwater in an interview the Arizona Senator gave the German magazine Der Spiegel. The Democratic vice presidential standard bearer said that when Goldwater was asked whether or not he was impulsive Goldwater replied:

PORTABLE “TRANSISTOR” A portable, miniature, wireless communications system is now available for meetings where a language barrier exists between a speaker and his audience, reports International Management, McGraw-Hill publications. The equipment consists of a transmitter, six pock-et-size receivers for the audience members, and a microphone. A translator, using the microphone, can either make on-the-spot translations. or tape the speech ahead of time for playback during the meeting.

SONAR OPERATION—A quar-ter-inch-long piece of brass is removed from eye of 8-year-old James Cassady of Falls Church, Va., in a first-of-its-kind operation—bouncing sound off an object—at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington. The surgeon is Dr. Nathaniel R. Bronson (right) of Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital, who developed the technique. The operation lasted two hours, but the final extraction took only 20 seconds. James may have partial sight in the eye.
