Western Airlines spokesman Darrell McConnell said one passenger and one stewardess w r ere taken to a hospital for a checkup, but no other injuries were reported. The Boeing 720B. regularly scheduled flight 658 from Los Angeles, carried 48 passengers and a crew of six. The passengers slid down emergency chutes immediately after the plane was brought to a stop and fire equipment sprayed one engine with foam. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To The Editor: As I have seen so much about the dust and cement plant, I want to put in my two cents worth. If people lived back on a country road like the people in my neighborhood do, they would know what dust means. We vote in men and have hopes of getting our road rebuilt, but what we do get is seeing it go down. I am a Democrat, but I wouldn't vote for the man over the county roads anymore, even if he was running for dog catcher. It just takes such business to change politics for lots of people, and I am out of it now. What I read about people not wanting our town to change, well there is one thing for sure. As long as they keep old foggies on the Zoning Board Greencastle will never change. If people ask for a shopping center, w r hat do they get? A Marsh store and it wasn’t wanted. But they couldn’t stand an up-to-date shopping center. We did get three more filling stations and a brand new f liquor store. Just what our towm need-
ed I guess. I would imagine if people don’t want an up-to-date modern town they just don’t intend to allow new business to come to Greencastle. There is one thing for sure, you can’t keep people from driving to Terre Haute and,Plainfield to do their shopping as long as we have our freedom. I really think Greencastle is the most outdated town I have seen in a long time. I even read in the paper where Western Auto was wanting to lease a building and have a new business in Greencastle. Did they find one ? I suppose not. I think it’s high time Greencastle woke up before Cloverdale becomes the shopping center for Putnam County. What you can't find new in the hardware stores in Greencastle you can find in the Cloverdale stores or I miss my guess. The way I look at it Greencastle likes to be served but it doesn’t like to be of service to its people. T.D.C.

Q: IS THERE a safe home remedy for stomach ache? A: Too many people have a tendency to take a cathartic or ah enema at the first sign of a stomach ache. This is potentially dangerous, especially if the appendix is the offender. Before any treatment is started, the exact cause should be determined. Dietary indiscretion, menstrual cramps or simple constipation can usually be relieved by Dr. Coleman known familiar methods. Intense and severe pain, with or without fever, deserves consultation with the fajnily physician. Often he can evaluate the importance of the situation even by telephone, and can make simple, safe suggestions for pain relief. Then, by reporting to him at regular intervals, your doctor can determine the need for examination and further study. Q: What is the BCG vaccine for tuberculosis? A: BCG stands for the Baccillus Calmette-Guerin, named for its discoverers. Some degree of immunity against tuberculosis is said to have been produced by BCG. This method of immunization resembles the technique of smallpox vaccination. There is still diversification of opinion by groups of physicians about its value. in recent months it has again been under critical study by international scientists under the

Organization. Q: What are the advantages of breast-feeding a newborn
infant?
A: With todays pasteurized milk, homogenized and supplemented with vitamins and minerals, the nutritional content of cow’s milk and mother’s mine are almost at a par. Probably the greatest advantage is the intense psychological bond that is established between the mother and infant. There is an increasing trend, especially among mothers with psychological awareness, to breast-feed babies. From the physical aspect, the uterus tends to resume its normal size somewhat more quickly if the baby is breast-fed. There is no justification for the fear-producing myth that breast-feeding can produce
breast cancer.
Q: What is meant by “butter-
fly disease”?
A: This is the casual name for a skin condition called “Lupus Erythematosus". The skin eruption on the nose and the face has the shape of a
butterfly wing.
The disease is said to be related to hypersensitive, allergic reaction to the sun’s rays. There are a number of forms of this condition, some of which can be very serious. New forms of treatments with cortisone and ACTH have lessened some
of its complications.

Seek To Avert Strike At G-M DETROIT UPI — General Motors and the United Auto I Workers union today intensified their drive to settle a new contract and avert a strike Friday by nearly 350,000 workers. The union and company met in the first night seccion of negotiations since UAW President Walter P. Reuther Monday led union negotiations to GM for showdown bargaining after this year's contract pattern was won at Chrysler and Ford. GM and the union met with reduced main table committees for three hours Tuesday night. Neither side had any comment following the session. GM personnel Vice President Louis G. Seaton said the committees were reduced to six members because "our experience has Indicated a smaller number of people can make progress faster at this stage of negotiations.” While negotiations picked up speed at General Motors, the UAW's national Chrysler council met to recommend ratification of the record 54-cent-an-hour settlement won at Chrysler.
