Federal spending increases for non-defense purposes have been two thirds those for mili-
tary aid in the past four years, the Arizona senator said. He added:
“Currently, the administra- j to provide funds for sticking the tion proposes actually to cut! government’s fingers in a stillour military spending, in order j larger mess of pies—for hand-
outs here, subsidies there . . . “That way lies national suicide.” -
Barry Speaks In LBJ Territory DALLAS UPI—GOP presidential nominee Barry M. Goldwater, carrying his campaign into LBJ territory, charged today that the Johnson administration’s military spending policy is heading the nation toward “national suicide.” And he said Defense Secretary Romert S. McNamara, w’ho appeared in Dallas only Tuesday, must be indicted for making “mistake after mistake” in the cause of both freedom and economy. He called McNamara “the pet cabinet officer” of the White House. Goldwater fired his latest blast at the administration in a speech prepared for delivery before the American Legion national convention in this city marked by the Kennedy assassination tragedy of last November. It was here that Texan Lyndon Baines Johnson took his oath as President.
MUNCIE UPI—Fire which authorities said was set deliberately destroyed two lumber storage sheds early today and damaged a third. Delaware County Sheriff Harry Howard said his investigation “indicated the fire was deliberately set.” He said an empty two-gallon can was found in the middle of the debris.
Plymouth Valiant has New Look, Front and Rear, and New V- & Engine Plymouth Valiant lor 1965 remains an economical, lowpriced American compact, built on a 106-inch wheelbase. A complete line of 6-cylindcr and V-8 models is available including two- and four-door sedans, two-door foirdtops, convertibles, and four-door, two-seat station wagons/There are three series, V-100, V-200 and Signet. P. N. Buckminster, general manager of the ChryslerPlymouth Division, said there will be 18 Valiants for 1965 for motorists interested in low-cost transportation. They are part of an expanded Plymouth line-up. which will total 60 models in four series lines, an increase of 14 over last j-ear. Other Plymouths are the intermediate-sized Plymouth Belvedere, the low-priced, full-sized Plymouth Fury, and the sports fasthack. the Plymouth Barracuda.

Retired Dean Dead BALTIMORE UPI—Dr. Alan 31. Chesney, 76, retired dean of the Johns Hopkins Medical School, and author of a number of books, died Tuesday at his home.
Store Robbed FREELAND VILLE UPI — Burglars broke into the W. R. Kixmiller store here early Tuesday and took S4.000 worth of clothing in the second costly break-in in five months. Last April, burglars got about $3,000 worth of clothing at the same store. The loot this time included 35 ■nuts. 55 sport coats, 25 topcoats, 100 shirts and 50 neckties.
kne is this division’s most significant marketing development in recent years,” Buckminster said. “We now have Plymouth models in 74 per cent of the American car market.” The Plymouth Valiant with its new grille, front fenders, deck lid, tail lamps, and body-side ornamentation establishes a family resemblance to other 1965 Plymouth cars. The new grille is a one-piece bright aluminum stamping, light, strong and anodized against corrosion. Plymouth Valiant has a new look from the rear, too, due to the new shape of the deck lid. IM BKIOK STYLING Interior styling has functional valve as well as decorative appeal. All-vinyl seating trim for the V-100 is one example; others are new options and changes in controls. New trim makes the instrument panel look completely different from 1964, although the basic configuration is unchanged. Automatic transmission controls for both the V-100 and V-200 now have a column-mounted selector lever. When either a four-speed manual or automatic transmission is ordered for Signet models, a special trim package is included with the floor-mounted control
lever.
MECHANICAL IMPROVEMENTS There are several improvements to the ignition and electrical systems. Distributor caps are made from a new glass-filled material which have more resistance to insulator “tracking” than the pre-viously-used caps. Other distribu-
tor improvements provide optimum spark timing during periods of sudden changes in engine load. Spark plugs, alternators and starting motors have been iniproved for longer life. Automatic transmissions for each V-8 and 6-cylinder engines have a new, heavy-duty thrus* bearing arrangement for the output shaft. The new ball bearing design can better withstand the thrust forces produced by th* torque converter and transmis-
sion gear train.
PERFORMANCE OPTIONS The new Commando 273 highperformance V-8 is a high-revo-lution engine. Its engine has a 4-barrel carburetor. 105:1 compression ratio, high-lift, higboverlap cam, dome-top pistons, dual breaker points, solid lifters, special intake system with unsilenced air cleaner, low back-pres-sure exhaust system with exposed tail pipe at the rear of the car, and an engine dress-up package. The dress-up package, standard with this engine, consists of a chromed air cleaner with a metal decal reading “Commando 273,” a chromed oil filler cap and crank-
case vent cap.
AIR CONDITIONING Another important option offered Valiant owners for the first time is a factory - installed air conditioning unit The unit wifl operate with either fresh or recirculated air. The air is cooled, de-humidified, de-pollenized, and discharged through three adjustable outlets located along the lower edge of the instrument panel and two fixed outlets below the paneL
