Styles Change With Season NEW YORK UPI — Now that the final big holiday weekend of the summer vacation season has passed, thousands of Americans will begin packing their sportswear off to the cleaners — or shopping for
more. For some families, the resumption of school classes marks the end of vacation time. For others with no children in school, there are winter vacation periods ahead. Few industries have been more alert to the growing pattern of year-round search by Americans for recreation than the clothing retailers. It has brought changes to male and female wardrobes alike. Residents of the United States now are spending perhaps $40 billion a year on sports and recrreational activities, the Institute of Life Insurance has
estimated. As a class of personal expenditures, it ranks just below the categories of food, shelter and transportation. Changing demands in clothing to go along with this trend first made themselves apparent in men's stores. The casual wear slacks, sports shirts and sports coats became in postwar America steady sellers for year-round wear. Ellis H.
