Yank [scapes From Laos Reds BANGKOK, Thailand UPI— U. S. Navy Lt. Charles F. Klusmanns “extended tour of duty” as a prisoner of the Communists in Laos was over today. Klusmann was on his way

home.

A spokesman for the U. S. Military Assistance Group in Bangkok announced Tuesday that Klusmann, shot down over Laos and captured June 6, had escaped and was safe and sound in Thailand. Today, the U. S. Embassy said that Klusmann “is no longer in Thailand.” Secrecy shrouded his departure, but he was believed enroute back to the United States. During his imprisonment, Klusmann, 30, had written his wife, Sara, in San Diego, Calif., to think of his absence as an extended duty tour.
