Director Harold Hatcher said the commission asked for the opinion after receiving a complaint from a Gary Negro who alleged discrimination when he was denied an insurance agency. The company which refused him the agency said race was not a factor, Hatcher said. “But the company added that its attorneys advised that insurance agents are independent contractors and not subject to

Hatcher said since the question arose only once in the two years the law has been in effect he did not know if the commission would feel it necessary to get a more definite an-

New spaghetti with meat sauce is a special favorite in any language and a must for any well-stocked kitchen cupboard-— within easy reach for a quick family meal or unexpected dinner guests. With very little effort you can have a hearty, home-cooked main dish. One package contains thin Italian spaghetti, a can of richly seasoned tomato-meat sauce and a packet of aged grated Parmesan cheese—the preparation couldn’t be easier. Just cook the spaghetti in 3 quarts of boiling salted water for 10 minutes or until desired tenderness is reached, drain and toss lightly with 2 tablespoons oil or margarine. While the spaghetti is cooking, heat the meat sauce then pour over the tender cooked spaghetti and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Terrific—cooked fresh in minutes the American way with that long-simmered Italian flavor—Kraft Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, number one on the shopping list of every clever hostess. Accompany this hearty main dish with a tray of crisp relishes and thin, herbed rye toast, prepared as follows: Rye Lace Thinly sliced rye bread Oregano Parkay Margarine, melted Brush bread slices with margarine; sprinkle with oregano. Bake at 325'’, 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Sometimes I wonder why billions are being spent to pinpoint chuckholes on the moon when there are so many practical problems closer home that remain unsolved. For example, no one has found a completely foolproof method to tell a ripe watermelon. Oh, yes, I know that some people with super-sensitive ears know where to thump and what i to listen for. But the rest of us forget from one year to the next whether a ripe watermelon should go plink or plunk. Around our house I usually get stuck with the watermelon picking. I stand wisely in front of the stack and pick up at least three melons before making a purchase. They all feel and look alike as far as I’m concerned but by choosing the third melon, I sometimes get credit for knowing more than I do. A guaranteed way to get a ripe melon is to have the guy

plug it or cut it. This, however, is risky business. Since the seller has already declared it to be ripe, you are doubting his judgment when you ask for proof. And then how red is red? If the melon’s innards are a shade darker than pale pink, you may feel honor bound to buy. Not too much is at stake when you make a bum guess on the ripeness of a watermelon, but some people lose their shirts by making a guessing game of their money matters. They make credit purchases hither and yon and are never exactly sure how they come out on each deal. The best way to take all the guesswork out of money management is to make the Full Service Central National Bank your financial headquarters. Then when you cut a money melon, you know in advance what it’s going to look like on the inside. Pd. Adv.
