School Bell Rings Again For Fillmore Students Friday was the opening day of school for children around Putnam County. With this thought in mind Daily Banner photographers Ken Nix and Martin Kruse invaded the premises of the Fillmore School Corp. to record the following scenes.
Picture 1 Perhaps the happiest people at the start of school are the students in the Senior Class. These Fillmore Seniors are no exception. For them it's the beginning of the end. Spring will find these youngsters more and more eager as the graduating day draws closer. Wait a minute! Let’s get through the coming year first. Oh well, can’t blame them for thinking ahead.
Picture 2 The Sophmore class may not be able to look forward to the same things as the Seniors, but they are on their way. Who know’s? Perhaps this class holds future Senators, athletes, movie stars or Nobel Prize winners.
Picture 3 “How nice to see you again.’’ “It's been a short summer.” Maybe that’s not quite what Sarah Johnston, Carolyn Hall, Rosie Archer, Suzanne Gorham, and Shirley Hendrick are saying as they arrange their lockers to suit their needs. But you can almost bet one thing: They’re looking forward to the coming school year with dances, ball games, dates and boys. Don’t forget to slip a bit of studying in between, girls.
Picture 4 Here's a typical scene that can be found at any school at the end of any school day: The bus ride home. How many of you readers can nostalgically remember how you tried to wangle a seat next to your favorite girl or had wrestling matches with your buddy in the back seat when the bus driver wasn’t looking?
Picture 5 It's the end of a long, hard day as the buses pull out of the school yard to take the children home. A few of the children wait impatiently for their parents to come and pick them up. It doesn't matter who the person is, the thought is the same: “I’ll do my homework after my favorite television show.
Picture 8 Joe Horn, 13 years-old and in the 8th gra de at Fillmore seems to have a few “Fleetinf Memories of Summer” as he sits at his desk on the fiffst day of school.
