Still there was no reason for East to throw away the defense by returning a club at the second trick. Since this article has been ringing the bell madly, you surely see East's correct play. Decide for yourself be-
fore you read on.
At the second trick East should return the king of hearts. This forces out dummy’s ace (otherwise East continues with a low heart) and thus removes the entry to the diamonds. East later refuses the first diamond trick but takes the second. Declarer gets only one diamond trick, together
Without this kind of warning with one spade ' tw0 clubs and
three hearts. One trick short.

the balloting for the GOP presidential nomination, were solidly in the candidate's camp to-
day.
For the first time, both Scranton and Scott came out flatly in support of Goldwater and his running mate, Rep. William Miller, Friday night j although speaking in different I cities. Scranton told a Young Republicans of Pennsylvania Convention here that the “Goldwa-ter-Miller ticket has my complete support." "What’s more,” the governor said, "our entire Pennsylvania Republican organization and ticket is also united behind all Republican candidates.” A few hours earlier, Scott who managed Scranton’s unsuccessful bid to beat Goldwater for the nomination in San Francisco last month, punctured his post-convention reluctance with a short, simple statement at Harrisburg. "I will support Barry Goldwater and Bill Miller,” Scott

DEATH PLUNGE - Ignoring pleas from police and spectators, a youth tentatively identified as Gary Naus, 17, plunges to his death from an eighth-floor fire escape of a department store in Chicago. He leaped just as firemen were approaching the fire escape with a rescue net.
