flower buds. A little later, other stems can be pinched back, in turn sending out lateral buds. If large show flowers are wanted, grow plants as single stems with all side shoots removed. This sends plant nutrients into a single bloom.
Dahlias are popular with gardeners because they have large blooms in a wide range of colors with good keeping qualities. They need plenty of moisture in rich, porous, welldrained soil according to a Pennsylavania State University correspondence course on bulb-
ous flowers.

en tricks outside of clubs and needed a second club trick
to make his contract.
He first thought of taking the ace of clubs and returning a club, but saw that this would alert the opponents to their danger. Instead, South played | a low club from dummy and casually dropped the eight of i clubs from his hand. It was a good idea, since I this made East’s nine of clubs look like an encouraging signal. West would surely continue, with another club, and then \ South could take the ace of! clubs and give up a club. SAFE FROM HARM This plan would Keep South safe from all harm. Even if West shifted to diamonds, South would win and give up another club. This would set up his last. club and assure nine tricks. The only flaw with the plan 1 was that the opponents were j human and took advantage of their state. When East dropped the nine of clubs at the first trick, he made a great show of shifting the cards in his j hand — clearly to keep the red and black suits alternating. West was neither blind nor scrupulous. He saw East’s big shift and realized that the nine of clubs was a singleton rather than an encouraging signal. So West switched to the queen of diamonds at the second trick. Now South could not make his contract. By the time South had managed to set up a club, West had taken three clubs
and two diamonds.
There’s a moral in this story. It s considered very unfair to j shift the cards in your hand
Answer: Bid two hearts. Get out of notrump when you have a singleton and a safe suit to escape into.
