LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor: The present problem regarding the necessity of correcting the dangerous curve on and widening of North Arlington Street points up the real need for a written comprehensive plan for our city. This condition has been developing for many years. As new housing sprang up along Arlington with the Arlington Heights, Hillcrest and Sherwood subdivisions, this main north-south artery carried heavier traffic every year. It was apparent that the problem would become more serious and eventually require attention. The League of Women Voters has tried for several years to inform the community that many problems, such as Arlington street, might be avoided in the future if Greencastle had a comprehensive plan now. A Birthilay Celebrated Sunday A birthday dinner was held Sunday. July 26th. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Janies Gaston, Fillmore. R. 1, honoring members of the family having birthdays in July and August. Those present having birthdays in July were Henry Buis and granddaughter. Linda Head. July 27th: Scottie Crawford. August 2nd: Joanne Crawford. August 9th; and Mary Kelley, August 27th. Everyone brought well filled baskets and all did justice to the many good things to eat. Those present were Mr. and
Such a document would set up a guide for future street, thoroughfare and highway development for the next twenty years. It would include plans not only for streets but also for locations of future schools, public buildings, parks, recreational areas, public utilities, as well as other aspects to coordinate all phases of sound, orderly growth over the next two decades. The League contends that a written comprehensive plan would be of particular value in the development of the twomile fringe area over which the city has jurisdiction. Planning now could eliminate many future problems and thereby save many tax dollars. Sincerely yours, Board of Directors League of Women Voters of Greencastle. I Mrs. A1 Head and Linda of Acton, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. ! Edwin Kelley, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Leonard and children, Hannah and Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Crawford and son Scottie of Greencastle.
