cording to P. E. Le Blanc, Division Manager of General Telephone. “Observations show’ that in a typical exchange which switches more than 200,000 local calls per day we find more than 6,000 of these calls are not completed because of errors in dialing made by the customer,” he ex-

plained.

“Unfortunately, one of the

most difficult things to tell a person is that he isn’t dialing his number correctly,” he said,

“because everyone believes he knows how to dial a telephone.” In order to save time and

temper, Mr. Le Blanc recommended each person who uses a telephone review his dialing

habits against the following: 1. Do I force the dial back not

letting it return to its normal

position at its own speed. 2. Am I certain w’hen I begin

to dial that I know’ the number I am calling ? It’s better to look I up the number in the directory and keep it in front of you while dialing. This saves your time and lessens the possibility of having to again look up the

number.

3. Do I dial the listed number as it appears in the directory? Frequently customers dial the letter “O" for the numeral “O” (zero) and the letter “I” for the numeral “1” (one). 4. Do I give the called party a minute to answer his telephone minute to answer his telephone ?
