Dr. Lane Is Medical Rarity a *- INDIANAPOLIS UPI — Too 6ften unsung people stand behind almost every woman who /hakes a success of combining a home and family with a profession, in the view of Dr. Elaine l<ane. Dr. Lane is that medical rarity, a woman physician specializing in infmal medicine, but she also is a wife and mother. She and her husband, John H. Lane, a pharmacist and drug store owner, have two sons, Eleven Scott, 5. and John David, l. • “I have a most considerate
husband,” Dr. Lane explained. “If it had not been for him, I would not have gotten this far.” Lane, who also is a ‘chemist, worked for Allison Division of General Motors Corp. to put his wife through medical school and himself through pharmacy college. “Another person w r ho helps I make my work possible is my neighbor, Mrs. Naomi Alte,” Dr. Lane added. As the doctor ' starts to work each morning, she takes her children across the street to Mrs. Alte who looks out for them as her owm until the Lanes return in the evening. Internal medicine, which deals wuth the organs within the
human body—such as heart, stomach, lungs and liver—often presents the specialist with a major mystery in trying to diagnose an ailment, she has found. The diagnosis sometimes proves to be cancer, and Dr. Lane admitted she is one of those people planning to quit smoking. “When I started smoking, I said I would quit in 10 years because I believe you run into trouble after smoking for 10 years,” she said. The 10 years now' are up, and Dr. Lane has promised herself to quit smoking. She also advocates a physical checkup for adults “every one or two years.” Woman, par-
ticularly, should have a test for cancer, she believes. Dr. Lane gave bwth to her two sons W'hile she was a resident physician at Methodist Hospital here. She took three months maternity leave for each and then served an additional six months residency at the end of her scheduled period to make up for the “time off.” Dr. Lane, a native of Evansville, met her husband, who was born at Newburgh, when both w r ere students at Evansville College. They went together for seven years and married when she was a sophomore in medical school. She is a graduate of Indiana University Medical School and also studied at the University
of Miami. The attractive brunet also finds time for membership in Zonta Club, where she meets women who manage to combine home and career in other professions, and she also sings in her church choir.

Capsule to Jog Memory Needed When Pills Come in Multiples
By the time you are able to swallow a pill in a single gulp, you have probably reached that station in life when a succession of medicants is needed to hold boot/ and soul together. This business of taking your curative potions in multiples will find that the edge is gone from your memory and this presents almost an impossible handicap when Doc puts you on a rigid pill schedule.

While the Full Service Central National Bank doesn’t compete with the drug industry, it does maintain a remembering laboratory for its customers.
