Predicted Farm Drop Is Slowed WASHINGTON UPI — An Agriculture Department review of farm income prospects for legislation slowed a predicted drop in farmers’ returns for this year. The enhanced prospects for farm income came primaril3' from the income-supplementing features of the new wheat program, the department said. It said that while realized net farm income this year may be somewhat short of the S12.3 billion of 1963. it will be less than the 5 per cent or more drop that was forecast last fall. The department review stressed these points: —Cash receipts from marketings this year probably wdll be slightly lower than the record high in 1963. Marketings of livestock and products will be larger In volume than the record last last year but prices probably will be lower. —Crop marketings may be about the same in volume as in age lower. Receipts will be augmented by increased payments to farmers for participation in the 1964 wheat, cotton, and feed grain programs. -►Income from meat animals in 1964 will be about the same as last year. Cattle and calf prices at the farm will average lower, but marketings will be larger. Hog prices are expected

to average higher. . —Receipts from dairy products are expected to be high because of a slight increase in the average price of wholesale milk and somewhat larger volume of milk sold to plants and dealers. —Cash income from marketings of poultry and eggs may be higher, mainly because of increased volume. —Cash received from farm marketings of wheat will be lower than in 1963. but payments to farmers under the new’ wheat program will make up most of the reduction in receipts. —Marketings of corn are ex-

Twenty percent of the senior group become entitled to the 13-week vacation every year. The entire plan is financed by company contributions. Steelways said that because the steelworkers participating in the plan include men with the most seniority, the idea of using the 13 weeks to prepare for their retirement occurs to many. Some plan to devote their time to community work, helping the young or pursuing of hobbies. The publication said the feeling among many steelworkers is that the extended vacation plan is a short-term approach to create more jobs in the industry. Nevertheless, sociologists have alerted most people connected with the extended vacation plan to at least one danger — “moon-lighting” — which would nullify this objective. Steelways said interviews with steelworkers showed some men have tried to get other jobs on their vacations but so far without widespread success. MANY SCRIPTURE !
