Dixie Scions To Fight Measure WASHINGTON UPI — Sen. Richard B. Russell, D-Ga , said today southern opponents of the civil rights bill had very little chance of forcing any significant changes in the Senate measure. Russell told newsmen, however, that southerners would keep on calling for votes on their proposals. He said they were determined to "make a record” by forcing roll calls on their modifications. “These people who are pressing this cup to our lips—we are going to give them a chance to make this very bad record,” Russell said. Russell's comments came after a series of 12 roll call votes Thursday under the tight debate limitations imposed by Wednesday’s historic cloture vote. The voting pattern suggested that opponents of the bill would make only such changes in the bipartisan substitute for the House-approved bill as Senate leaders were willing to accept. Democratic Whip Hubert

H. Humphrey, Minn., predicted as much. He said he did not believe important changes would be made in the substitute. Humphrey, the bill’s floor manager, said he hoped for a final vote of approval next week.

Add 13 Cities WASHINGTON UPI — The U.S. Travel Service had added 13 cities to its list of communities where foreign visitors can visit with U.S. citizens under a "Americans-at-home” program. The announcement bri igs the total number of cities participating ?n the program to 35. The travel service will publicize in foreign countries numbers which visitors can call in each of the cities to amnge visits. Russ To Join U. S. In Space GENEVA UPI —Russia has agreed to join the planned American global space satellite communications system, Soviet officials said today.

They raid Moscow has firmly accepted an invitation to participate in the network, to be set up and run by the United States Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT). The Russians said their part in the network will consist of Moscow’s setting up special communications stations and a national grid to receive, relay and transmit messages via the satellites. It was understood there was no question of Moscow buying share in COMSAT or of Russia adding its own satellites to the network. The Soviets, like other countries to join in the project, will have to put up money in some way to help meet COMSAT's cost of getting the satellites launched.

4 YOUR HEALTH

By LESTER L. COLEMAN, M.D.

Doctor, I’d Like To Know—

MY HUSBAND, 56, had a coronary heart attack. It is now almost three months since he left the hospital, and the doctor says he is well. But he is still afraid to do the slightest work in the office or at home. I am worried that he will never be "himself” again. What can be done? Mrs. S. H. R.. Arizona Dear Mrs. R.: Your story is a common one and characterizes the anxiety of many heart attack patients Dr. Coleman who make themselves "chronic heart invalids." Undoubtedly your husband’s physiqjan has been encouraging aim to return to limited activity without undue exertion ar pressure. Difficult To Convince Unfortunately simple assurance and permission, even from i doctor, are often not enough to convince an individual that he is safe in resinning many of Sis normal functions. "Rehabilitative specialists" must sometimes be consulted in order to restore a cardiac patient to his full functioning capacity, both emotionally and physically. Psychological support, assurance, reassurance and an understanding of the emotions of a "cardiac" are the basis for the total rehabilitation of the patient. Combined Efforts It takes the combined efforts and patience of the family and professional guidance counselors to accomplish this monumental task. But all the energy expended Is well rewarded by the renewed confidence with which a former cardiac patient again

takes his dignified place in the home, on the job and in the community. ✓ • * • Question Of Safety I am 28 years old. When I was 19, I developed syphilis. I was treated and pronounced cured. Now I want to get married. Is it safe for my wife-to-be? Will we be able to have children? Should I tell my fiancee? K. A. R., Florida Dear Mr. R.: When the disease of syphilis is pronounced cured, the patient must still be kept under surveillance. Repeated, periodic blood studies are a valuable safeguard for yourself and your family. Reason For Test* It is for this reason that premarital blood tests for syphilis axe mandatory. If the Wasserman, Mazzini and other tests for syphilis are consistently negative, it can be reasonably assumed that your wife will be safe from possible syphilitic infection. Whether you can or can not have children depends entirely on how early the treatment was started after the onset of the infection. Blemish Of Falsehood Honesty and frankness are fundamental to a successful marriage. Starting off with the blemish of falsehood undermines the total foundation of a marriage. An open discussion before the wedding between you, your fiancee and your doctor will relieve your anxieties, strengthen: your understanding, and give great support to a happy relationship. While Dr. Coleman cannot undertake to answer individual letters, he will use readers? questions in his column whenever possible and when they are of general interest. Address your letters to Dr. Coleman in care of this newspaper.

with bridge on Mars. They always make the best opening lead. I could expect to win two spades, and four diamonds fairly easily. The trouble is that one spade stopper had to go at the first trick. If I knocked out the ace of diamonds, they’d return a spade to force out my other stopper in spades. This would limit me to eight tricks. Whenever I tried to develop a trick, the enemy could take the ace of clubs and the rest of the spades. OUT ON A STEAL I tried my familiar Earthy tactics. I won the first trick in dummy with the king of spades and led the jack of clubs. On Earth, East would play low in the hope that I was going to try a losing finesse of some kind. That would give me one club trick; and I would switch to diamonds and get nine tricks before the spades could be brought in. But it didn’t work on Mars. My right-hand opponent snickered; and let me tell you — a Martian snicker is not a pleasant sound for a teetotaller to hear. "That went out with sex," he chortled. (They’re very advanced on Mars. And he took the ace of clubs and returned a spade. That was the end of me and of the bridge game. From here on I’m going to keep my feet on the Earth, where I can steal a trick when I need it. DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with 1 NT (16 to 18 points), and the next player passes. You hold: S 0643 HQ953 DAS 3. What do you say? Answer: Bid two clubs, the Stayman Convention. It seems strange that a man who complains because his wife scorches the beans will smoke out the whole neighborhood with his barbeque grill and call it cooking.
