Northern Dancer Triple Crown Hopes Upset NEW YORK UPI — Quadrangle’s victory over Northern Dancer in the Belmont Stakes shattered the Canadian colt's bid for a Triple Crown sweep, but the battle for the 3-year-old championship will continue in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga. That $75,000 race at a mile I and one quarter on Aug. 22 appeared the likely spot for the ' nation’s top sophmores to re- J new their scramble for the title. Northern Dancer still was the leading contender even though the mile and one-half Belmont Stakes proved beyond him after his successes in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness.
