Turn To Right Doubted By GOP SAN FRANCISCO UPI — California Republicans doubted today that the narrow victory in Tuesday’s primary for Arizona conservative Barry Goldwater represented a sharp turn to the right for the GOP in the nation’s most populous state. Most agreed it virtually assured Goldwater the party’s presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention here in mid-July. But they felt his 51-49 per- j

centage win over New York Gov. Nelson Rockefeller for the state’s 86 convention votes was far from a clear-cut victory. One source used these mathematics: About 70 per cent of the regristered Republicans voted in j the primary and 51 per cent of those voted for Goldwater while 49 per cent cast their ballots Goldwater’s win represented the votes of about 38 per cent of the 2.9 million registered Republicans in California. “It’s really a minority win," said the source. In past years, the party has been reluctant to support any but middle-of-the-roaders in the general election — and to win it must pull some Democrats, who hold a 3-2 registration edge.

Nikita To Tour MOSCOW UPI — Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev will sail from Leningrad June 15 and arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark,

Goldwater Has Convention Edge WASHINGTON UPI —Several top Republican strategists said Sen. Barry Goldwater’s California primary victory means he is within reaching distance of the Republican presidential nomination. Others predicted there still would be a convention floor fight with the final outcome in doubt. But no one questioned that Goldwater had won a substantial victory in a crucial state. Republican Nation! Chairman William E. Miller said the Arizona conservative now is “very close” to having the delegate strength needed to win the nomination at next month’s San Francisco convention. Sen. Thomas B. Morton, RKy., Senate GOP campaign chairman who will be permanent convention chairman, said flatly that the California outcome put Goldwater “away out in front” of his competitors.

Collins family, early pioneer of Putnam County, who now have descendants living in three extreme coastal points in the United States. They were proud to make a gift of their former home site in Putnamville to the Warren Township Lions, that they might develop it into a community park center for the benefit of residents and friends of the Warren Township community. * A building will soon be under construction, crafted by members of the Lions Club. Improvements will be added from revenue obtained from their annual fish fry gatherings and other contributions.

Barry Goldwater’s critical victory in the California Republican primary. It was the second day of what has been called an ’’anti-filibuster filibuster.”

State Revolving Fund Approved INDIANAPOLIS UPI — The Indiana Board of Finance approved creation of a J100.000 revolving fund which Deputy Treasurer William Owen said was necessitated because of a sharp increase in the number of bad checks the state received

Chairman Leslie Duvall made the comment in a statement issued after Goldwater’s victory in the California primary was

assured.

Duvall said the committee he

Morgan County Conservation Officer Carl Koons arranged the stakeout Tuesday morting, shortly after Nagle found three pigs dead and saw a “long dark animal with a long tail” vanish into a nearby woods. The Nagles’ remaining pigs got through Tuesday night without further incident, and the men in the stakeout heard or saw nothing unusual. The Tuesday killings were at least the fourth visit to the Naugle barnlot by a beast which screams, apparently jumps on top of the pigs and eats selected areas of flesh. The pigs killed weighed from 75 to 175

pounds.

Naugle has seen the animal at least twice. One day last week he shot at it as it entered

a heavy thicket.

A cow has been missing for more than a week from the neighboring farm of Ernest Hite but there was no indication it was a victim of the killer.

State Sen. Ray Conrad, chairman of Gov. Nelson Rockefeller’s Indiana organization, showed no concern over the Goldwater victory. “Anyone who can get a million votes in California certainly cannot be counted out in the national convention, “Conrad said. “We are in better shape than we were before the Oregon primary.”

government account they should be deducted. He said that the State Board of Accounts approved creation of the revolving fund so deducted from the fund then credited later when the Department of Revenue has time to figure out to which account the check belongs. All Indiana retail merchants, as well as some out-of-state merchants are required to send monthly payments covering the amount of sales tax they have collected under a law which went into effect last October. The board diverted $189,298 from money appropriated for salaries at the Fort Wayne State School to 10 other institutions to be used for salary increases. Mrs. Gardner explained that the Fort Wayne state school had a surplus in its personnel account this year because it was not able to hire the people it needed as soon as the school had hoped. She said that next fiscal year, beginning July 1, the Fort Wayne institution expects to need all its money and perhaps more but if the new year’s appropriation is not sufficient the money can come from i contingent fund. The board also transferred the balance of the state school support which was due in April from the general fund to the tuition fund. This means the remaining $15,126,229 of the April quarterly payment will reach local schools next week after many of them are closed for the summer. It approved a loan at 2 per cent interest of $21,000 to the town of Cumberland for planning a municipal sewage system.
