AN INDIAN claims commission in Washington has ruled the XJ. S. ought to pay some 540 million for Florida land obtained from the Seminoles 141 years ago. 11 Meet Death In State Traffic Indiana wound up the 78-hour Memorial Day weekend with 11 traffic fatalities, a toll somewhat lower than was expected j and lower than rate average no greater than a non-holiday period. The fatalities between 6 p.m. Thursday and midnight Sunday raised the year’s total to at least 459 compared with 444 a | year ago. However, the rate of fatalities was only one every seven hours, just about the same rate as prevails day in and day out in Indiana over an entire calen- : dar year.
U. S. government agencies employ 62,000 engineers.
THEY'RE A TEAM—Ann and Charles Webb are all ready to become a husband-wife medical team at Columbia University’s June 2 commencement in New York. They were married at end of the first year of their four-year course, and he becomes a surgeon, she a pediatrician. Charles, 26, is from Baltimore. Ann, 25, is from Sewickley, Pa. They will intern at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.

challenged by 64 employes of the University of Washington at Seattle. Justice Byron R. White spoke for a seven-man majority. Justices Tom C. Clark and John M. Harlan dissented. White said both oaths are couched in vague language. They offend the Constitution’s guarantee of “due process of law,” he said. One oath, required by a 1931 statute, is for teachers only. It speaks of “reverence of law and order and undivided allegiance to the government of the United States.” The other, a 1955 amendment to the state’s Subversive Activities Act, is required of all state employes. They must swear they are not members of the Communist party “or knowingly of any other subversive organization.” The complaining professors and employes sued in a special ■ three -judge federal court to have both oaths declared unconstitutional. The lower court upheld the non-Communist oath, bi t did not rule on the other one.
