The massive campaign involes about 5,000 Vietnamese regulars, who have been patrolling since April 27 through 500 square miles of jungle-clad mountain 320 miles northeast of Saigon. Senior American advisers believe the bigest gain has been time, won by upsetting the plans of Maj. Gen. Don, who commands the Communist guerrillas in Central Viet Nam.
