CHECK THE DIFFERENCE— if your frozen food compartment looks like the one at top, it’s time to shop for a new electric refrig-erator-freezer. Below is the freezer section of a new model with plenty of room for lots of ice and quantities of food. Best of all, it never has to be defrosted. first place, she never, never has to defrost. In the second place, ice cube trays and all the frozen food containers always can be lifted out of the freezer with ease. And, with no frost, freezer capacity never diminishes, as it does when layers of frost start to form. This means the new electric refrigerator-freezers that never have to be: defrosted give full value. Altfr'Uigh they may not take up mor Afloor space than the qJ£ thick-walled units, the new ones with thinner, more efficient insulation have much more storage space-for both fresh and frozen foods. And they keep food deep-frozen, not just barely frozen as the early ice-cube compartments did.

MICRO LAB CAPE KENNEDY, Fla. (UPI) — One major contribution of the Project Fire, the reentry vehicle recently launched here, to the advance of space technology was the development of a special instrument that crams the equivalent of a room
of delicate equipment into a device smaller than a shoe box. Aboard the Project Fire spacecraft were three of these unique radiometers designed and built by Republic Aviation to “look” in as many directions to measure heat intensities and then covert these intensities into electrical signals which are telemetered to ground stations.

Hooray! Defrosting's Doomed Summer is the time for new crops-and new crops, whether babies, brides or new green beans, usually call for additional refrigerator space. One of the most insidious space stealers is the frost that forms in freezer compartments. Besides stealing space, it hides labels and locks in cube trays and food packages. But lucky is the lady who has one of the new free-of-frost electric refrigerator-freezers. In the
New Refrigerator-Freezers Offer Four-Point Program
"Recent developments in refrigerators are exciting,” the Michigan State University Cooperative Extension Service says
in a new booklet
The booklet, "Choosing and Using Your Refrigerator,” was published by the Extension Service to help families choose the right refrigerator or refriger-ator-freezer for their particular
seeds and budget.
A new model does more than just keep food cold, the booklet
points out
L It helps guard the health of your family by retarding food
spoilage.
2. It offers temperatures from cool to cold to below freezing. 3. It protects your pocketbook —you can buy in larger quantities, save on left-overs, cut down
waste.
4. It requires little of you. Stressing the importance of combination refrigerator-freez-ers, the booklet points out that these units have separate sections for the storage of fresh and frozen foods. The freezer section, which has an insulated door, maintains zero-degree temperatures to permit the rapid freezing of foods and their long-term storage without loss of flavor or texture One of the most talked-about features of new electric refriger-ator-freezers is no defrosting. Many models completely eliminate messy manual defrosting in both fresh-food and freezer sec-
tions.
A few of the other features Jo look for in modern refrigeratorfreezers include swing-out or pull-out shelves, special storage space for tall bottles, butter and egg keepers, automatic ice cube

and fruit.
Some models'feature a freshfood section designed to maintain top quality by surrounding foods with still, moist air. This permits longer storage at abovefreezing temperatures. Families will have no trouble finding a new model with a builtin look. Almost all refrigeratorfreezers today have square corners and doors that allow a close fit to adjacent walls and cabinets. The trend in refrigeratorfreezer sizes is toward larger capacities, according to the Michigan State pamphlet. Many families have found they can fit a new large-capacity unit in the same floor space their old model used to occupy. This is due in part to the development of new, thinner insulating materials.
