Wins Preakness BALTIMORE UPI —Northern Dancer won the Preakness Stakes in the first quarter mile, trainer Horatio Luro said today of the Kentucky Derby winner who now needs to win the Belmont Stakes to become America’s ninth Triple Crown win-
ner.
“The run to the first turn
was critical,” Luro said. ‘‘Hartack” (jockey Bill Hartack) and I knew the field would be closely bunched and felt that Hill Rise, who was the closest to Northern Dancer in the Derby,
jwas the horse to beat.

Little Olympics Here Wednesday Over 400 grade school boys and girls will be participating in the annual Kiw’anis-sponsored Little Olympics this Wednesday afternoon. Events are slated to start at 12:45 at Blackstock
Stadium.
Competing in a gamut of events that includes running and jumping, as well as sack races and other relays, the boys and girls of the city’s three elementary schools have been preparing for the Little Olympics for several w-eeks. Ribbons will be awarded to the first four finishers in each event. Kiwanis Club records do not reveal the exact date of the first such Little Olympics. But Mike Tzouanakis, principal at Jones School, recalls participating when he was a youngster some 25 years ago. Staged with the fine cooperation of Greencastle school officials, this is always one of the most exciting days of the year for local youths in grades 3
through 5.

Tiger Golfers Finish Fourth With Bob Silcott winning third in medalist play, DePauw finished a respectable fourth in the conference golf tournament that was played this weekend at St. Joseph’s College. Butler University won the 36hole event with 607 strokes, followed by Ball State 623. Evansville 632, DePauw 633, £t. Joseph’s 640, Valparaiso 640, and Indiana State 641. Each school entered five men, but final scoring was based on the scores of the team’s lowest four players. Silcott, DePauw’s number three man, finished in a tie for third among the 28 entries with a score of 152. Lee Evans of Butler was the day’s medalist with a one over par 145.
Old Gold Drops Two Ball Games Indiana State slugged and pitched DePauw out of the Indiana Collegiate Conference baseball race with a pair of 102 and 2-1 wins at Terre Haute Saturday. The losses dropped the Tigers from first to fourth behind Valparaiso (8-3), Indiana State (6-3), and Ball State (5-3). DePauw is 4-4 in the league with a 1 p.m. doubleheader yet to play here Saturday with Butler. Bruce Mackey, DePauw righthander, lost both games, retiring in the opener after five innings trailing 7-2. Tee Metcalf threw the final three innings and gave up three more runs. Both advanced to third and second on passed balls, then Wing scored on another passed
ball.
State pulled the game out of the fire when Mackey opened the inning by walking Steve Harlan. Harlan was sacrificed to second when scored on a triple by Larry Roesch who legged it home with the 2-1 victory moments later on a sacrifice fly to left field. DePauw's only hit off John Blazevich in the second game was a single by shortstop Bill Bennett.

CAN YOUR CAR BEAT FORD AND CHEVROLET LIKE PLYMOUTH DID AT INDIANAPOLIS?
v. ■ I I
Boy, girls sure can be dumb! Of course I can’t beat them! That was one of these "Test Track, U.S.A.” things... where they test the three cars for passing quick and stopping fast and costing less for gas... what daddy calls “things you buy a
car for." Well, anyway, Plymouth beat the others in 9 out of 10 tests! It was held at Indianapolis Raceway Park*, and Plymouth just won, and won, and won, and won! Can my car beat Ford and Chevrolet? Boy, what a stupid question! I can’t even afford gas!
*At Plymouth’s request, Nationwide Consumer Testing Institute bought the comparably equipped V-8s directly from dealer showrooms, hired the drivers, supplied the officials, made the rules and supervised the entire competition.
