ANNOUNCES ENGAGEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Meier of Milwaukee, Wisconsin announce the engagement of their daughter, Lynne Ellen, to Richard Lee York, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald S. York of 411 North College. The wedding date is set for June 7 at Sherwood Christian Church.
Favor Nuclear Navy Proposal THE HAGUE UPI — Allied sources said today recent offstage consolations have “considerably increased” the likelihood of Allied approval of the internationally-m a n n e d nuclear navy proposed by the United States. “They said the U. S.-favored force of surface vessels
equipped with Polaris missiles probably will come into existence, perhaps early next year. Opposition to the project was said to have lessened because it was regarded as offering political advantages. A U. S. destroyer is to start experimental operation, probably next month. West Germany, Italy, Britain. Holland, Greece and Turkey have agreed to make men available for its crew.
West Marvin H. D. Club Meets At Fairway Restaurant The West Marion Home Demonstration Club met at the Fairway Restaurant on May 13; Roxie Zeiner was hostess. President, Edith Girton opened the meeting with all repeating flag pledge and creed. Eight members answered roll call. “How you would improve your kitchen.” Flossie Alexander gave the lesson on Program Planning for 1965; members: then voted on lessons of their choice. Dorothy Toney made a report on Symptons and Types of Heart Attacks and recovery. Crystal Barker attended the county lesson on Exhibit Planning. New rules would make it necessary for us to get a new table and blackboard. After discussion a motion was made and carried that we are not to enter an exhibit at this year’s fair. Edith Girton made a report of County Council meeting. Flossie Alexander and Virginia Hanks received hostess and birthday gifts. Refreshments were served and we all enjoyed a good visit together.
Tri Delts Plan Pansy Breakfast The Tri Deltas will hold their annual Pansy Breakfast on the lawn of the Chapter House, Saturday at 10 a.m. All Tri Delta chapters in the United States honor senior women with this breakfast. A bridal show with wedding and bridesmaid gowns will feature models from the Junior and Sophomore classes. Miss Char Erdmann of Greencastle, will model. The highlight of the event will be when the engaged and married senior women walk through the pansy ring while the narrator, Miss Susie Ervin, announces their future plans. General chairman is Miss Julie Strathearn from Chicago, Illinois. She has planned the breakfast around the theme of “A Spring Bridal Bouquet” carrying out this theme in the decorations of fresh flowers and a large wedding cake centerpiece.
Mrs. Branneman Is Club Hostess Mrs. Ruby Branneman entertained nine members of the Dine and Chat Club in her home Wednesday afternoon, May the 13th. The “Lords Prayer” was repeated in unison after which the money was collected for the June hostess gift. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. This being the first meeting, Mrs. Mabel Herbert had attended for some time due to conflicting schedules, highlights of past meetings were given for her enjoyment. Mrs. Branneman was surprised by the delivery of a lovely vase of yellow roses from her son and family and the club enjoyed their beauty and fragrance the remainder of the afternoon. Each member selected a prize from a tray of attractive and useful articles. After enjoying the delicious refreshments served by the hostess the club adjourned to meet at the home of Mrs. Eva Merl Kennedy in June.
Mother's Day Tea At Putnamville The Putnamville “Happy Homemakers” held a Mother’s Day Tea on Monday, May 4th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Putnamville School. The entertainment consisted of a dance by Marcia Heeke, a piano solo by Carol Stallcop, baton twirling by Jo Ellen Elmore and Sharia Grimes. There was also singing by Nancy Leonard, Linda Elmore and Doris Hartman. The narrator for the -entertainment program was Charlene Yater. Refreshments: Ice cream and cake.

City Firemen were called to 34 South Jackson Street Boulevard at 8:05 this morning. They reported an overheated oil furnace in a house trailer owned by Bill Priebe. No damage resulted. Patty Ann Evens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Evens is confined to the Putnam County Hospital. Her room number is 209 and she would like to hear from her little friends. Miss Cynthia Ann Pence became the bride of Ronald Lee Vander Zee Saturday afternoon at the altar of the First Methodist Church in South Haven, Mich. The 1:30 p.m. wedding took place at a scene decorated with baskets of pink and white chrysanthemums, carnations and stock. At the organ was Robert Colliflower and attending the bridegroom as best man was Richard J. Pence, brother of the bride, Benton Harbor. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. James R. Pence, 406 St. Joseph St., and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vander Zee of Rt. 4, South Haven. The bride was graduated from South Haven High School in 1960, and attended DePauvv

She was attired in a full length gown of aqua peau de soie with scooped neckline, three quarter length sleeves, and full skirt with chiffon overskirt. Bridesmaids were Miss Lisa Jannings, Miss Constance Jennings, junior bridesmaid, and Miss Patricia Jennings, flower girl, all cousins of the bride. All carried identical bouquets. Hagans, solemnized the double-ring ceremony in which the bride was given in marriage by her father. A floor length gown of peau de sole featuring a moderately scooped neckline edged in reembroidered Alencon lace, was worn by the bride. A plastron of beaded Alencon extended from the neckline through the basque bodice to the front princess panel. A redingote effect was created by the side front panels touched with Alencon lace and a tailored bow topped the bouffant chapel train. Her elbow length veil of imported illusion fell from a crystal pearl crown. A bouquet of white orchids

Club Meets With Mrs. Anna Wallace Mrs. Anna B. Wallace on U.S. 40 was hostess to Our Community Club, “Come as you are” meeting. Mrs Eddie Buis, President, opened the meeting and Mrs. Oren Buis gave the prayer and scripture. During the business meeting, $5.00 each for supplies was voted to be given the Bible School of the Providence Church, and to the Bible School at Fillmore, Ind. Gifts of kleenex and cookies were given to the patients of the Graver Nursing Home in Greencastle. Twenty-four house and hospital visits were made by our members. Cards were sent to two of our members who are ill. A bontiful carry-in dinner was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Nif Trucker received a secret sister gift. During the social hour, Frona Tincher won the prize for best dressed “come as you are” member and Mrs. Raymond Keyt won the contest prize. Mrs. Frona Tincher will be our June Hostess.
