At left are students learning to operate such stations for the upcoming Gemini shots. The training is underway at the Wallops Station (Va.) training school operated for NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Panels in rear contain tracking data and communications units; middle, equipment that’s in the spacecraft to send data such as blood pressure and pulse rates of astronauts to the ground stations: foreground, a digital command system through which commands may be relayed to the spacecraft.

Appetizing soup and salad mates provide interesting and taste-tempting fare for lunch or supper. For instance, this shimmering salad of tuna, green peas, and crisp diced apples molded in orange-pineapple flavor gelatin is a satisfying entree, preceded by mugs of steaming hot Cheddar cheese soup and crusty toasted bread. Molded Sea Jewel Salad 1 package (3 ounces) orange- 1 tablespoon vinegar pineapple flavor gelatin H cup mayonnaise H teaspoon salt * J can (7 ounces) tuna. Dash of pepper drained and flaked 1 cup boiling water *4 cup drained cooked pea* *i cup cold water li cup chopped red apple Dissolve gelatin, salt, and pepper in boiling water. Add cold water and vinegar. Stir in mayonnaise and blend well. Chill until very thick. Fold in remaining ingredients and pour int» a 1-quart mold. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Place over low heat; stir constantly until gelatine dissolves, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in sugar and salt. Add limeade concentrate and ice water; stir until concentrate is melted. Chill until slightly thicker than consistency of unbeaten egg white. Add egg whites to gelatine mixture; beat until mixture begins to hold its shape. Turn into 6-cup mold. Chill until firm. Unmold; garnish with twisted slice of lime. If desired, serve with whipped cream, custard sauce, or fruit. YIELD: 8 servings.
