INFANT SLEEP LOS ANGELES (UPI) —In a study of the sleep patterns of 75 infants, Dr. Arthur H. Parmelee Jr., of the University of California at Los Angeles found that the longest sleep periods averaged 4.9, 4.3 and 4.2 hours

on each of the first three days of life. After the first week the ability of babies to sustain sleep rose rapidly to an average of 8.4 hours in the sixteenth week of life, according to Dr. Parmelee’s report in “Medical Tribune,” a publication for doctors.
