Tiger Cubs Beat Clayton, 4 to 3 The Greencastle High School baseball squad opened their 1964 season last evening by defeating Clayton by a score of 4-3. Ronnie York singled home Ron Blotch in the last of the seventh inning to give the Tiger Cubs their margin of victory. Spring wildness prevailed as Clayton pitcher Liggett walked six Greencastle batsmen while Greencastle pitchers Gerald York and Jim Lewis walked five Clayton batters. Most of the walks and wild pitches came in a row to give Clayton their
three runs.
Gerald York and Jim Lewis did not allow Clayton a base hit during the game and only a few: balls were hit out of the infield. York looked very impressive as he struck out eleven batters during his pitching stint On the batting side of things, third baseman Scott Lewis got things started for GHS by scoring after doubling to left field in the second inning. Jim Lewis had a perfect afternoon by hitting three singles in three trips to the plate. Ronnie York, Jim Covert, and Steve Brackney collected the remaining GHS hits. Other players to w’atch for this year are veteran lettermen Phil Cooper, Bill Clary, and Bob Evens. Younger players trying to earn their first baseball letter are: Tom Bums, Jim Shamel, Phil Kidwell, Bill Nanovsky, Stan Hurst, Darrell Brackney, Stanley Brown, John Michael, and Dave Patterson. All of these boys will see a lot of action. The Tiger Cubs will travel to Martinsville Thursday evening and will return home to meet the West Vigo Vikings at the high school field Saturday af-
ternoon at 1:00 p.m.

AUGUSTA. Ga. UPI —U.S. amateur champion Deane Beman charged today the U.S. Golf Association has “ruined'’ tournament golf by creating a pattern for its events in which “only one or two players have
a chance to wm.’’
The USGA has set a killing precedent by insisting on extra long courses which favor the big hitters and don’t pay off on skill or finesse,” said the reigning amatuer king, a Bethesda, Md., insurance man. “There are a lot of great players here for the Masters but I don’t see how anybody can beat Jack Nick-
laus.”

Russ May Use Wheat For Bombs WASHINGTON UPI — Rep. Richard L. Roudebush, R-Ind„ reported to his constituents Sunday that American wheat sold to Russia may be used for the production of ethyl alcohol and therefore, for the manufacture of atomic bombs. his son.

He said Richard Wiley, the teacher, “touched me on the shoulder and I turned around and hit him.” The incident happened when Johnson went to McKinley Junior High School to protest Wiley’s action in keeping Johnson’s son after school. Wiley said the discipline was for a class disturbance.
HUGHES SPEAKS Bloomington —State Treasurer Robert E. Hughes tonight
Roudeoush listed the uses of ethyl as “the production of munitions, including TNT, propellant fluids, liquid hydrogen, poisonous gases, primer compounds and atomic bombs.” He cited statistics provided Congress recently showing that Russia raises more than enough cereal grains to feed her population and even exports some to the Communist bloc. “This seems to indicate that American wheat is not necessary to keep Russians from starving, and that the Soviet Union itself produces a wheat surplus, nearly three million tons of which can be exported to satellite nations,” he said In
the newsletter.
Roudebush contended that the Soviet Union continuously maintains an eight million ton wheat stockpile against emergency crop failure. He said that Russia is currently engaged in a program to produce 800,000 tons of industrial alcohol next year. “According to the Soviet government’s own figures, all bread and cereal uses in the Soviet Union’s own collective farms will produce 35.8 million tons.”
