Marion County grand jury investigation of a numbers racket. The jury submitted a report to Judges Eugene Fife and Saul Rabb in Marion Criminal Court containing indictments against 23 persons, including one nonpoliceman. Names of those indicted were not made public pending arrest. Police Chief Noel A. Jones previously indicated if any policemen were indicted they would probably surrender en

masse this afternoon. Judge Rabb said each would be released on his own recognizance and no bond would be required because they have “roots in this city.” Four policemen among 25 who testified before the grand jury resigned shortly before the jury reported.

Today, April 1, Cloyd Moss has completed twentyfive years as manager of the local J. C. Penney Store. Mr. Moss, a native Hoosier, was born on a farm near Cutler, Indiana, and came to Greencastle as manager of the local Penney store on April 1, 1939. Following graduation from Purdue University in 1929 he spent his training years in the Lafayette Penney Store. Mr. Moss has niade many friends in Greencastle and Putnam County as manager of the store and is active in many civic affairs, serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce during 1959 and on the Merchant’s Committee for many years. He was president of the local Kiwanis Club in 1955, Lt. Governor in 1957 and on state committee during 1958-59-60 and 61. A member of the Greencastle Park Board for many years he is now serving as chairman. Mr. Moss is a past chairman of the Greencastle Planning Commission and a member of the Putnam County Planning Commission since its organization. He was on the Fair Board for many years and has been chairman of many drives including Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Greater DePauw and served on the Wabash Valley Boy Scout Committee. He is an Elder of the Presbyterian Church, a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and Eastern Star. Always interested in 4-H work he is a member of the local Purdue Agricultural Alumni group. Mr. and Mrs. Moss reside at 426 Anderson Street. They have two sons, Jack, a graduate of Purdue University and a farmer in Carroll County; and James, a DePauw University graduate is employed as a civil engineer in California.
