Len Pennyworth Say»: Experienced Signer Could Hit Dotted Line With His Eyes Shut

While waiting for the wife to try the patience of a shoe clerk up the street, I sauntered down to the bank and parked myself on the “Loafer’s bench.” Finding no one there in the mood to argue politics or swap yams, I entertained myself by listening in on a young couple waiting for their first interview with a loan officer. I grinned behind my newspaper as I recalled my first borrowing venture. I still remember what the loan official at Central National Bank said after he had worked out a plsm suited to my money problem. He informed me that in meeting my periodic payment obligations I would be establishing a sound credit reputation — a valuable asset to a fellow in any community. Throughout the years it has

seemed wise from time to time to borrow from the Central, and while it hasn’t always been easy to scrape up the money, I’ve managed to meet my payment deadlines. Nowadays the interview has become more or less a formality, and I don’t have to ask the man anymore where he wants me to sign my name. I could hit the right line with my eyes shut. Some of these days my jittery young friends will also feel at home at the loan desk and in all other departments at the Central. I was all set to offer them some fatherly advice on the advantages of establishing their credit at a Full Service Bank, but just then the wife walked in to tell me she had decided against buying a pair of shoes and had spent the money for a hat.

WALTON

Just as in faith you choose your doctor, your dentist, your attorney and your church. It is equally true that in that same faith you choose that reassuring relationship with your funeral director. Perhaps this is the reason why so many more families are choosing the homelike atmosphere of the Hopkins and Walton Funeral home, the gentle understanding and the quiet efficiency of Wayne Hopkins and Ervan Walton. Wondering what decisions you will make in what bewildering hour? In the privacy of your home, may we reassure you that the almost unbelievable multitude of necessary details will be completed in reverence, dignity and beauty.
