LOCAL NEWS PERSONAL & Progress History Club will meet Tuesday with Mrs. Forst Fuller. Bro. Charles McGee will preach at Long Branch Church of Christ, Sunday, March 29, 11 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Pierce have returned home after spending the past five months in Buena Park. California. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Michael and son of Muncie visited his mother, Mrs. Janie Michael Wednesday. Their son is a student at I.U. this year. Two more Republicans have filed as candidates for precinct committeeman. They are Lawrence R. Jones, West Second, and Bobby Albright, North Warren. The Young Mother's Study Club will meet April 1, 1964 at 8:00 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Wilma Wallace. Mrs. Ross Alice will have charge of the program. Roll call is tell a joke or pay a penalty.

4-H CLUB NEWS The 4-H Cloverdale 4-H Club 6th graders, met March 24th in the Junior High School to elect officers. Those elected were: President, Lola Atkins; Vice president, Vicki Brewster; Secretary, Kinda Rogers; Treasurer, Marsha Stewart; Recreation Leader, Penny Michael; Song Leader, Janet Leslie; Health & Safety, Sandy Adams. Our leader is Mrs. McClure.

Presented Cantata The Bible Club of Fillmore High School presented an Easter Convocation last Thursday afternoon at the school. Bob Storm, president of the club, gave the welcome. The high school choir sang “Praise Be to Thee'’ and “Born to be Free.” Rick Robinson introduced the guest speaker, Reverend Reed Stewart who is a student of Garrett Theological Seminary in Chicago and also is pastor of the Fillmore Methodist Church. Rev. Stewart gave a very inspiring address to the students. The Bible club is comprised of 110 Jr. High and High School students. The club sponsors all seasonal religious convocations at the school.

Meeting Held By Historical Society The Putnam County Historical Society met at Torr’s Restaurant, March 25th for a dinner meeting with a good attendance. Mrs. William Boatright, president, opened the session with modern proverbs from a farm journal. Mrs. Boatright announced a Genealogy meeting will be held in the Indiana War Memorial April 4. 10:00-3:00 p.m. Anyone planning to attend this meeting should send their reservations in by April 1st. Mrs. Boatright has the blanks. For a delightful program Mrs. Boatright introduced Mrs. Alfred Jeffers and Mrs. Bruce Albright, who presented “America Sings as History Is Made.” in song and story. Mrs. Jeffers began with a solo, “America, Our Heritage.” Our history began with a song. Taken from the Journal of Christopher Columbus is this. The Pinta leads the procession and her crew is singing the “TeDeum.” Next we hear from Francis Hopkinson who wrote Washington’s choice, “My Days Have Been So Wondrous Free.” Of course we all realize that our national anthem "The Star Spangled Banner” by Francis Scott Key was composed while he was a prisoner on a British boat during the War of 1812 (The War of Independence). Samuel F. Smith wrote America in 1832. In 1843 Thomas A. Becket wrote “Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean.” Next came the Civil War songs such as Julia Ward Howe’s “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” George Root’s “Battle Cry of Freedom,” “Tenting Tonight,” by Kittredge and “Dixie” by Dan Emmett. During the Spanish American War, Sousa composed “The Stars and Stripes Forever” in 1897. Mrs. Bates wrote the w r ords “America, the Beautiful.” They continued with some

World War I and World War H songs which were more cheerful as the soldiers went away with a smile. The audience joined in with several of the more familiar songs singing, “God Bless America” for one. A member reminded all that we should revere our wonderful heritage and display much more patriotism in our daily lives.

Evelyn Yanders Is Club Hostess Cloverdale Craft Club was graciously entertained at the home of Evelyn Yanders on March 25. Eleven members responded to roll call with their middle names. The club was very happy to welcome Rosalie Allen as a new member. The treasurer’s report was given by Olga Snyder. Vivian Mugg gave each member a copy of the revised by-laws of the club. The secretary’s report, by Barbara Mann, was approved. Everyone enjoyed a poem by Vivian Mugg which has been published recently. Orders were taken for leather supplies to be used at the next meeting on April 22 at the home of Helen Sinclair. Donna Houston and Helen Sinclair will be lesson leaders. LaVaughn Patten closed the business meeting. The regular lesson was on making footstools, with Edith Gerlach and Evelyn Yanders as leaders. Some of the members spent the afternoon doing other crafts of their choice.

Mr. and Mrs. John C. Cantonwine, R. R. 1, Greencastle, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Judy Ann, to Neil Kent. Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hunt, R. R. 2, Terre Haute. Miss Cantonwine is a student at the Terre Haute Medical Laboratory. Mr. Hunt is assistant manager of the Blossom Shop in Terre Haute. The wedding will take place Sunday afternoon, July 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the Church of Christ in Greencastle.
