Baseball Great Assumes Office WASHINGTON UPI — Base* ball great Stan Musial was sworn in yesterday as President Johnson's special consultant on physical fitness. He said during a White House visit that he would be less nervous with a bat in his hands. “Stan the Man” took his oath in the cabinet room with Johnson looking on. The President called the former St. Louis Cardinal star “a hero to the youth of this country who has demonstrated that champ means more than to win.” Johnson said that he could not think of anyone “better qualified or skilled to lead the nation's youth.” He recalled that the late President John F. Kennedy had started the fitness program. “I think he’s watching us this morning and I think no one would b e prouder, Johnson said. Musial had been an all - out campaigner for Kennedy in 1960. Musial, now a vice president of the Cardinals, succeeds Bud Wilkinson in the post. Wilkinson resigned recently to make a bid for the Senate seat on the Republican ticket in Oklahoma. He also resigned as University of Oklahoma football coach.
Athletic's Lease Clay Says He Still Unresolved Rules The Ring
KANSAS CITY, Mo. UPI — Charles O. Finley was ready today to sign a four-year lease on Municipal Stadium, but not a lea.se meaning his Kansas City Athletics must play here for the next four years. That stipulation, making the city’s proposed lease escape proof, caused the owner to balk Wednesday on his announced plans to sign the lease and make peace with the baseball world. He demanded further negotiation instead. Finley’s three attorney’s and city officials, after failing to resolve the issue in a four-hour session Wednesday night, scheduled another meeting today in an effort to end the crisis over the Athletics. Today’s session was scheduled to begin at 10 a. m. EST.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. UPI — The most nauseating part of Cassius Clay being the heavyweight champion of the world today is the fact that he believes he really is the ruler of
the ring.
Cassius admits that he huckstered his way into a title bout. And he says flatly that he believes Sonny Liston could have continued instead of throwing in the towel at the end of the sixth round of their title bout. Which comes out that he either beat a one-armed man or a feller who took a swan dive into a damp rag.

No. 1 Team NEW YORK UPI—The Evansville Purple Aces will have to earn their second national small college basbetball championship Saturday night when they close out the season against fifth-rank-ed Kentucky Wesleyan. Evansville, which has dominated the United Press International ratings for 11 consecutive weeks, today again was acclaimed the nation’s No. 1 small college power.
Stage Net Upset INDIANAPOLIS UPI —Leave it to 14-game loser Mishawaka to turn in the first major upsets of the Indiana high school basketball tourney The Cavemen from the Northern Conference did it twice Wednesday in the onening rounds of sectional warfare which eliminated 71 teams from a field of 597. First they dunked touted South Bend Washington in the day’s only overtime game, 60-58. then they turned the tables on another South Bend crew-St. Joseph’s 7062, to gain Saturday’s sectional semifinals.
newal of the hot series is set for 8 p.m. The school’s two freshman teams will battle at 5:50 p.m. Up until Tuesday’s dramatic 73-71 loss to major power Butler, the Tigers were sporting a two-game winning streak at the expense of St. Joseph’s and Valpo. Though everyone hates to lose, the near-upset at Butler actually makes the Tigers savor their remaining games with Wabash and Ball State even more. Beginning with a February 15 date with Ball State, the Tigers have been infused with a new brand of poise and polish—and success that lifted neutral eyebrows to a season high in last week’s 100-66 scalping of Valpo and the photo finish with Butler in Indianapolis Tuesday. Elmer McCall, DePauw coach, says he hasn’t changed anything that the club does except its defense, which is basically a zone, although Elmer calls it an “optional” zone. T know it sounds like a cliche,” McCall admits, "But we seem to have jelled finally.” The kids are doing a great job on defense and our hitting (.432 from the field and .739 from the foul line) have never been better while I’ve been here.” “Naturally I hated to lose that one at Butler—we haven't won
