This gives East his chance to become a philosopher. If East is a simple soul, he will finesse the ten of hearts. He knows that South will win with the king of hearts, but then East is in position to take two heart tricks whenever hearts are led

again.

The only trouble is that it will be a long hard winter before hearts are led again. South will obviously get to work on the diamonds immediately. East can take the king of diamonds and lead a club, but South will take the ace of clubs and run his diamonds and spades to make sure of the contract. MI ST NOT FINESSE If East is a philosopher he will see that he must not finesse at the first trick. Heart tricks do not have a bearing on the contract. The only chance to defeat the contract is to develop club tricks before South can run nine tricks. East must go up with the ace of hearts, ignoring the unimportant heart tricks, and must shift to the ten of clubs to try for the important club tricks. No matter how South handles the clubs, the defenders have the upper hand. For example. South may step up with the ace of clubs and lead the nine of diamonds for a finesse. East takes the king of diamonds and continues with the nine of clubs, whereupon the defenders take three club tricks to defeat the contract. If you don't have time to become a philosopher watch out for a long, solid (or nearly solid)

"Doing dishes for a family of 7 is a lot easier and faster since we changed to a GAS Water Heater/" • • • says Mrs. Hubert Miller 527 Sawmill Road, Whiteland, Ind., shown here with her daughter, Shirley.

“Novi vie have plenty of hot wafer all the time. And our utility hills are a lot less, too/ A Gas water heater heats water three times faster at only % the cost of heating water the “.flameless way.” Actual savings in utility bills, after changing over to a Gas water heater, often are enough to cover the monthly payments on the new heater.
