Robber Facing Murder Charge ANDERSON UPI — Jack Lee Allman, 29, serving a term in the Indiana Reformatory for robbery, today awaited extradition to Illinois where he faces murder charges. Allman was serving a 3-year term at the Pendleton institution when it was discovered he was wanted in Illinois for the fatal shooting of a Chicago loan company official in a holdup last July.

Governor Welsh signed extradition papers last week and Allman was destined for Illinois authorities later this week. Final arrangements were made here Monday. Allman was sentenced on robbery charges from Marion County.

Cyprus Leader Leaning To U. N. NICOSIA, Cyprus UPI—Cyprus President Archbishop Makarios today was reported hard-

ening in his attitude toward the proposed NATO peace force and leaning toward direct United Nations intervention in his coun-

try's crisis.

The countryside was reported tense but quiet after the latest fighting between Greek and Turkish Cypriots Monday. Diplomatic hopes were fading that a peace plan could be approved by all parties involved and implemented before the smouldering communal hate erupts into full-scale civil war.

Nikita Appeals To Two Nations MOSCOW UPI—Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev today sent ppeals to Somalia and Ethiopia "to take all necessary measures"

to end their bloody border conflict. In personal messages to Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and Somalia Premier Abdiraschid Ali Shermarke, the Soviet leader said: “It is the conviction of the Soviet government that in our time there are not and cannot be any territorial disputes between states, any unsettled frontier issues, the settlement of which would require recourse to armed force.” He said the current fighting between Ethiopia and Somalia was a case in which this doctrine ‘‘fully applies." The dispute centers on Somalian claims that portions of Ethiopia belong to “greater Somalia." These areas are along Ethiopia’s southeast border. Somalia lies in East Africa on

the Indian Ocean. Khrushchev expressed regret that lives already have been lost.

Many Killed In Border Dispute ADDIS ABABA , Ethiopia UPI — Ethiopia and Somalia blamed each other for their worsening border crisis today and turned to the Organization for African Unity (OAU) and the United States for help. Fighing between the two Af-

rican neighbors has resulted in hundreds of casualties since Friday. Ethiopia said Monday its troops had killed 307 Somalis and injured 492 others. Somalia claimed 35 Ethiopian dead. The crisis showed no signs of easing despite appeals for calm from the OAU and U.N. Secretary General Thant. The dispute between the two countries stems from Somalia’s claim to frontier lands inside the Ethiopian border. Somalia has similiar claims along its border with Kenya, causing a deterioration of relations with the new Kenyan government.

Jet Is Returned To Air Guard INDIANAPOLIS UPI — The Indiana Air National Guard Monday received the first of 36 F84F jet fighter planes which the Air Force had borrowed during the Berlin crisis of 1961-62. The fighters, to be used at Hulman Field. Terre Haute and Baer Field, Fort Wayne, will replace reconnaissance planes which the guard was given as substitutes for its fighters.

Producer Dies NEW YORK UPI — Samuel Chotzinoff, 74. who produced the first opera written for television, died Sunday night in a New York hospital.

The amount of horsepower required to move soil on United States farms each year would move a ridge of soil 100 feet high and a mile wide from New York to San Francisco, says the Ohio Agricultural Extension Service.
