CHS Musicians Audition Here Cloverdale Community Schools had 58 entries in the District Solo and Ensemble Contest held on the DePauw campus Saturday. There were 24 entries placing in Division L, 31 in Division II and 3 in Division III. Winners in Class A were: Andy Cooper, trumpet; and a mixed clarinet quartet composed of Jackie Cumings. Phyllis Furr. Betty Jo Branneman and Sheila Casida. These students will participate in the State Contest on February
15.

East is too smart to cover the queen of hearts with the king. If South plays a low' heart on dummy’s queen, he will have to win the next trump in his hand. There will be no way to get back to dummy for a third trump finesse, so East will get a trick with the king of hearts.

South can take the ace and jack of hearts, but East will make a trump trick with the eight. Memorize the right way to play such a trump suit so that you can zip right through it the next time you encounter this common holding in actual play. Begin the trumps by leading dummy’s nine instead of the queen. East cannot afford to cover
the nine, so dummy holds Uui trick. Now you can afford to lead dummy’s queen. If East covers, you draw' trumps with the ace, jack and ten. If East plays low, you stay in Gummy and lead a third trump through East. DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with one heart, and the next player passes. You hold: S-A Q 8 4 H-K 8 7 6 DJ 6 5 3 C-9. What do you say? Answer: Bid three hearts. This jump shows strong trump support, with 13 to 16 points counting distribution.
