Tiger Cubs Back In Win Column Greencastle's Tiger Cubs bounced back from their 67-65 upset at the hands of Schulte Friday to whip invading Crawfordsville, 89 to 72, Saturday night.. Coach Dave McCracken’s net tossers now have a 12 won, 2 lost record, with strong Terre Haute Wiley playing here this coming Friday evening. The Cubs started strong against the visiting Athenians and soon ran the count to 9-0. The rebounding and free throw's that spelled defeat in Terre Haute enabled the Cubs to gain a decisive advantage over the visiting team. Whatever Crawfordsville tried the Greencastle Five had an answer and the first quarter ended with the locals leading 26-12. Continued domination under the basket in the second quarter kept the Cubs at the top of the heap. It was a desperate Athenian team that tried to gain possession of the ball, and in the last 30 seconds of the first half they stepped up the pace in an effort to cut the lead. However, the Cubs were leading 48-30 w'hen the half-time buzzer sounded Trying to find the combination to beat the strong Greencastle team proved to be difficult for the visitors. A full court press didn't seem to be the answer, for the Cubs seemed tireless. With 1:05 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter and the locals leading twenty points, Coach McCracken retired his first five and gave his remaining string a chance to increase the lead. As far as Craw'fordsville w'as concerned it was "all she w r rote” and the final buzzer sounded. Four local players ended in the double figures as Chadd, Cooper, Blotch and Dave York aided the Greencastle cause wdth 28, 18, 21, and 14 respectively. Williams, Wilson and Goodrich were leading scorers for Crawfordsville with 20, 10, and 10 respectively. Dave Sanders, hitting nine for 14, and Jeff Blue, w’ith seven for
10, were high for Butler. Sanders picked up eight free throw's and Blue five for 26 and 19 points, respectively. Blue’s rebounds were tops for both teams. Jim Callane was DePauw’s top scorer with 13. Bruce Osborne had 11, only two in the last period. Butler's freshmen won the preliminary game, 102-76.
