U. S. Panama Break In Fffect WASHINGTON UPI—A virtually complete diplomatic break between the United States and Panama was in effect today, and U.S. officials saw no immediate way to heal it. At Panama’s request, diplomatic personnel of the U.S. Embassy in Panama City have been evacuated to the U.S.-controlled Canal Zone. Panama served notice it has recalled all its officials from the United States. U.S. officials said the next move appeared to be up to Panama’s President Roberto F. Chiari. The United States has refused to give an advance promise to revise the Panama Canal treaty, which is Chiari’s price for resuming relations. There was some possibility — at least a hope—that the ouster of U.S. diplomats might be temporary, and that after Panama satisfies itself with a round of anti -American demonstrations, peace efforts might again have a chance. An official of the Panamanian foreign office, who asked American diplomats to leave Friday, reportedly indicated it might be only temporary in order to “quiet the public in Panama.”

The Mothers Service Club will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with Ethel Conklin. Etta Scott will be assisting hostess. Roll call will be. Where You Spent Christmas and Your Favorite Gift.” Secret Pal drawing will be held. Mrs. Edith McKamey of Fillmore received word Friday morning of the sudden death of her great granddaughter, Carol Kennedy. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kennedy and a freshman in the Noblesville High School. Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Schulz, Belle Union, are home from a three weeks’ visit in Florida. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Basel Staley of Jupiter, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brown at Melbourne and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Michael of Sebring.

interested in asking questions about the United States. The one question that I was asked most often was in regard to the colored man’s fate in America. One child asked if all churches would be bombed as they were in the south if negroes attend. One school teacher told me of his experiences in the United States while he was studying at Michigan State University. He ran track for the school, was a distinguished student, and came back to become head master for one of Jamaica’s better secondary schools. While he was traveling with a friend down the eastern seaboard, he was refused service in restaurants, hotels, and parks. He described to me how a policeman told him “No nigger sits in this park,” when he was about to take a seat in a park bench in a southern village to read a daily paper. Every day tfte people speak to me about their hero, John F. Kennedy. It is easy to understand their loyalty to their immortal hero who stood for the rights of man regardless of race, creed, or

color.

In a small store in the mountains pictures from the newspaper display the image of John F. Kennedy. Indeed, Mr. Kennedy won the hearts of the people of Jamaica even though he never visited the island while he was president. By traveling throughout the island, visiting the 4-H Clubs, and living with rural people, I have been able to get close to t h e m and see their true beliefs and

goals.
