THE PAILY BAN'NEH C ARD OF THANKS I would like to take this means to express my thanks and appreciation to all my friends who have been so ki^d and thoughtful to me during the past four months that I have been in bed. For the visits, all the lovely cards at Christmas time, get well cards, flowers, gifts and the many kind acts which included the both of us. I wish I could thank each one individually, but that would be impossible. So I will just say “Thank you air and wish you all a Happy and Wonderful New Year, with good Health, Love and Prosperity. Virginia Sweet GAME OF TITT: WEEK WGRE’s Putnam County Game of the Week wall feature the Bainbridge-M o n t e z u m a basketball game. The game will be played Friday evening and a recording of the play-by-play description will be broadcast on Saturday morning at 9:00. Craig Brines and Ted and Ed Stahl will be on hand for the game Friday evening to bring all the action from the basketball court. WGEE broadcasts at the 91.o spot on the FM dial.

Mrs. Ray Lawson Is (iul* Hostess The West Marion Home Demonstration Club met on January 8 at home of Mrs. Ray Lawson. The meeting was opened by Vice Pres., Mrs. Freddie Hanks. Song History was read by Mrs. Carl Barker. All member said creed in unison. Mrs. Frank Toney installed new officers. New Pres. Mrs. Gene Girton presided over meeting. She asked for Tres. report then Sec. report was read and approved. Old business was discussed as was new business. Roll vjan was answered by 9 members telling the club lesson they had enjoyed most the past year. Secret Sister names were drawn for ’64. Leader Training lessons were read and members chose lesson they would like too take. The meeting was adjourned by 9 members and 1 guest and a social hour followed with hostess serving cookies, apricot nut bread and coffee. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Gene Ozment on Feb. 12.

The Third Wednesday Club will meet January 15th at the Fairway Restaurant at 12:30 p.m. for a luncheon meting. A daughter was born Friday morning at the Putnam County Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gorham, 201 First Street. The Ladies Aid of Union Chapel Church will not meet Jan. 15 as usual, but the meeting will be postponed until Jan.

Miss Martha Virginia Smith of Greencastle has been named to the Honor Roll at Transylvania College for the recently completed Fall Quarter. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin T. Smith, Route 3. A member of the freshman class at the Lexington, Kentucky college, Miss Smith made a 3.00 standing out of a possible 4.00 for the quarter’s academic work. She plans to major in drama at Transylvania^

Next Workshop On January 13 The second meeting of the Sunday School Teachers workshop will be held in Charterhouse of Gobin Memorial Church Monday evening, January 13th at 7:00 p. m. More than one hundred-twen-ty-five workers attended the first meeting. The following classes were organized. 1. Pre-school and kindergarten: Miss Vois Blankenship, Director of Christian Education, First Christian Church of Greencastle. 2. Primary and Intermediate (grades 2 to 6) Instructor: Mrs. Robert Eccles. Mrs. Eccles assists in writing the International Bible Lessons for Primaries. 3. Junior High School. Instructor: Miss Loraine Riggs, on staff of the Christian Education of Presbyterian church, U.S.A. 4. Senior High School and Older Youth Instructor: Lysle Loomis, Director of Christian Education, Northwestern Indiana Methodist Conference. 5. Young Adults Instructor, Bob Hammond, Director of Christian Education, Indiana Baptist Convention. 6. Adults Instructor: Reverend Chauncy J. Often accompanied by Mrs. Yunker, he pursued his botanical studies over a 30-year period in Europe, Central and South America, and among the island groups of the Pacific. He was an associate botanist of the B.P. Bishop Museum in Hawaii. Pursuaded by the head of the Smithsonian Institute to continue the work of his late mentor. Dr. Trelease of the University of Illinois, Professor Yuncker published in 1950 the monumental work, The Piperaceae of Northern South America. After that he published and wrote numerous other wc’-ks and articles, including a monograph, Brazilian Piperaceae. which he completed shortly before his
death.
Two years ago. Dr. Yuncker was honored at the 55th anniversary convention of the Botanical Society of America as one of the nation’s outstanding botanical scientists. He had been a former vice president and treasurer of the society. A native of Carson City, Mich., Dr. Yuncker was a member of many professional and civic societies and organizations and was past president of the Indiana Academy of Science, the American Society of Plant Taxonomists, and of the Greencastle Kiwanis club. He was a past Worthy Grand Patron of the Indiana Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Phi Delta Theta, Veteran of World War I, the American Legion, The Masons, Scottish Rite, Sigma Xi, Science Honorary, Scabbard and
Blade.

3 Girls Escape To West Berlin BERLIN UPI—Three girls escaped under the Berlin wall through a tunnel completed while the Communists were permitting West Berliners to make Christmas-time visits, Western police disclosed Thursday. The West Berlin builders of the tunnel were able to warn other would-be escapees- in time to prevent their arrests when the Communists found the tunnel. It was the first news of a tunnel this year. Western police revealed its existence only after the Communists discovered its mouth, flooded it with tear gas. and blasted it shut with dynamite to prevent further escapes.
