Russians and Americans. The P o z d n e e v s and their hosts, the James McKenzie family, walked out of the McKenzies spacious home here to pose for photographs then exchanged warm farewells before the Pozdneevs got into a car for the two and a half hour trip to Cincinnati, where they will begin the first air leg of their return trip. McKenzie set the tone of the departure as he spoke to photographers who crowded around the group and asked them to pose for "just one more.” He said, "That's been the story of this visit. Just one more,” then laughed. The Pozdneevs left with Christmas presents given them by the McKenzies. Olga, the Pozdneeves’ 6-year-old daughter, clutched one of a half dozen dolls she received after showing an interest in American dolls. From Cincinnati, the family

was to fly to New York, then on to Stockholm and Moscow. Awaiting them at home w r as another Christmas celebration, the traditional Russian observance in early January. Mrs. Pozdneev has dreaded the return trip since her arrival here. The flight to Portsmouth took 22 hours, and she suffers from airsickness. But the return trip will be filled with a eollectoin of memories and impressions.

Discuss Holy Land Meeting VATICAN CITY UPI — A Greek Orthodox Church representative sent by Patriarch Athenagoras I of Constantinople arrived today to confer with Pope Paul VI about a possible Holy Land meeting between ihe two church leaders. The patriarch’s representative, who arrived from Athens is also called Athenagoras. He is the metropolitan of Thiakiron and the newly appointed leader of the Orthodox Church in England. The Orthodox metropolitan said on his arrival that he was here “to have contacts with the Holy Father and his collaborators with a view of studying the possibility of a meeting of the Pope and Patriarch Athenagoras in the Holy City of Jerusalem.” Pope Paul VI is making his historic pilgrimage to the Holy Land Jan. 4-6. The arrival of the Orthodox representative is the latest of a series of moves clouded in secrecy which may result in an unprecedented "holy summit” meeting in Jerusalem between the leader of Catholicism’s half a billion faithful and the leader of the 110 million Orthodox faithful. Patriarch Athenagoras proposed the meeting in a speech this month after hearing of Pope Paul's intention to go to visit the shrines of Christ's birth, life, death and resurrection in what are now - Jordan and Isael.

IN MEMORY In memory of my mother, Katherine Wyant, who passed away one year ago today, Dec. 29, 1962. The dreary days and lonely nights Have slowly made one year. Each day ks marked with loneli-

ness

Each night is marked by tears, For I'm so lost without you and I miss you so. Only God knows how my heart was broken When he chose you to go. Oft I think of you dear mother And my heart is sad with pain. Oh, this world would be Heaven Could I hear your voice again. You wore a crown of patience As you struggled on and on. A faithful one, so kind and true Dear Mother how I long for you. Loving and kind in all of your ways Upright and just, to the end of your days, Sincere and true in your heart and mind A beautiful memory you left behind. You had a nature one could not help loving Your heart was purer than gold, And those who knew you, and loved you The memory will never grow

old.

The kiss of the sun for pardon The song of the winds for wirth. Mother was closer to God's heart in her flower garden Than any where on earth. Poets write about you, Songs tell of your love, So sad to do without you Mother, it's you I'm thinking of. I hope, to always linger At the spot where you are laid, And come to scatter flowers. On the grave that Christ has made. Sadly missed by daughter and grandson, Cleo Querry and Charles M. Green.

Playwright Advises Bridge Partner On Play By Alfred Sheimvold Many years ago I piaye- regularly in New York's famous Regency Club, in a game that included the late George S. Kaufman whenever he could spare the time from his many activities in the theater. One day Kaufman’s partner played the hand shown today:

North dealer iioLh sides vuTnerabl® NORTH A A J 2 A Q 9 0 7 4 2 ♦ A J 10 9 WEST EAST A 8 7 (5 A 4 3 S? 10 5 3 *0 J 8 7 4 2 0 A 9 8 OQJ10 *K.8J2 A Q 7 4 SOUTH A K Q 10 9 5 K 6 O K 6 5 3 A 6 3 North East South West 1 NT Pass 3 A Pass 4 A All Pass Opening lead — A 8 Almost any sensible line of play will produce four spades. South can discard a club on dummy’s extra heart and play diamonds. The ace is unfavorably located, but the suit breaks 3-3, so that South can lose only three diamonds.

Another plan is to discard a club on dummy's extra heart and then play clubs. After cashing the ace of clubs, declarer leads the jack of clubs intending to ruff if East plays an honor but to discard a diamond if East plays a low club. South can get back to dummy with the jack of spades to repeat the club play, and can get to dummy with the ace of spades to continue clubs. Declarer eventually makes a second club trick to add to his five trumps and the three hearts. ACTUAL PLAY FAILS South’s actual line of play was neither sensible nor successful. He won the first trump trick and led a club to finesse with dummy’s nine. East won with the queen of clubs and returned the queen of diamonds. The defenders promptly rattled off three diamond tricks to add to their club, and South was down one. South seemed puzzled at this result and looked up inquiringly at Kaufman. “How should I have played that hand?” he asked. Kaufman was ready with an answer. "Under an assumed name,” he replied icily.
