Jeffersonville Scene Of Fire JEFFERSONVILLE UPI — Fire which was at first confined to upstairs offices of a two-story building in downtown Jeffersonville burst out of control into a department store below today and Louisville fire-fighters were called for assistance. After battling the stubborn fire for about two hours, it appeared to be controlled with damage confined mostly to the effects of smoke and water. But suddenly the flames burst forth again and firemen sent out a speedy call for help. The blaze broke out before dawn in the upstairs offices of Goodwill Industries and then
traveled through the roof as a brick wall collapsed into the Berlin Department Store on the main floor. Units from New Albany, Clarksville, Utica and several volunteer units were called to aid Jeffersonville units already on the scene. HURT IX JUMP OXFORD UPI — Shirley Hayes, 17, Oxford, was injured today when she leaped from the second floor of her burning home. Authorities said the girl and her mother were home alone in the early morning hours when the fire broke out. The mother escaped safely but the girl apparently was trapped upstairs ana jumped 15 to 20 feet to the ground.
