SLUING HANDS Mrs. Patricia Stanley, Flint, Mich., has proved to doctors that she can “see” colors with her fingertips while blindfolded. She explains that a “light color feels smoother and thinner, while a dark color feels thicker, heavier and rougher.” Doctors say other such cases are on record and may lead to advances for blind persons.

BUCKLE DOWN FOR SAFETY say these eight top winners in the 1963 National 4-H Safety Program as they pull the ends of an outsize auto seat belt together. They hope to dramatize for two and one quarter million 4-H Club members and all Americans that auto seat belts, if worn, can save 5,000 lives each year. Helping them make their point is Edmund Steeves, center. General Motors director of field operations. Each national winner received a GM $500 college scholarship. In addition, GM gave them and 36'other state safety award winners all-expense trips to the National 4-11 Club Congress in Chicago. General Motors has been 4-H safety awards donor since 1945. Left to right are: Monty Blakemore, 16, Celeste, Tex.; Janis Lindsey, 16, Columbia City, Ind.; Judy Styles, 19, Brentford, S.D.; Maria Langlois, 16, Greenwell Springs, La.; Diane Barrigar, 17, Winthrop, N.Y.; Larry Roffee, 16, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Brenda Bennett, 17.
