SUB-TO-SUB KILLER—These illustrations show the U. S. Navy’s new and most advanced weapon, SUBROC, a submarine-launched, rocket-propelled nuclear depth bomb for destruction of hostile submarines at long range. SUBROC, developed for Navy by Goodyear Aerospace, employs a complex system of advanced sonar and special fire-control which primes the missile for its misson. The missile weighs around 4,000 pounds.

1—Missile is launched horizontally from conventional torpedo tube; 2—rocket motor Ignites at safe distance; 3— missile is thrust upward and into air; 4—rocket motor separates from nuclear depth bomb; 5—guidance system and automatic controls regulate flight; C-—missile re-enters sea at supersonic speed; T—warhead explodes, destroying foe.

REFILL LAKE PALM SPRINGS, California UPI—Lake Elsinore is going to get a $750,000 refill. The lake west of here, ran dry in 1951. It currently is used for auto races. The money will be spent to build pipelines and buy water to fill it up again.

The new White House tenants- Pit ident Johnson. Mrs. Johnson and their teen-age daughter, Lucy Baines pose for photographers on the North Portico. Absent is the President’s other daughter, Lynda Bird who is attending college in Texas.
