GOP, Dixie Coalition Is Still Operating WASHINGTON UPI — The political marriage of convenience known as the Republicansouthern Democratic coalition has not been put asunder, despite some public grumbling by a member of the wedding. Reports suggesting there may be a crack in the informal, bipartisan alliance of congressional conservatives arose from a speech this week by Sen. Richard B. Russell, D-Ga. Russell, the South’s foremost legislatives strategist, and other Dixie congressman have had frequent occasion in the past to make common cause with Republicans to oppose liberal programs. The Georgia Democrat heaped ridicule on House Republican Leader Charles A. Halleck. Ind., for helping President Kennedy extract a compromise civil rights
bill from the House Judiciary Committee.
Seagulls Poisoned MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. UPI — Botulism poisoning may have been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of seagulls Wednesday along the Michigan and Indiana shores of Lake Michigan. Health officials said, however, they felt there was no danger to humans and that there appeared little likelihood that contaminated water was involved in the deaths.

3 cup shortening 2 cups dark brown sugar, packed 1 teaspoon cinnamou teaspoon nutmeg 2 eggs 2 cups sifted all purpose flour lV» teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoons salt
% cup dairy sour cream 1 cap quick cooking oats 1 6-ounce package (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate morsels 1% cups chopped Calif orni* walnuts 1 cup raisins
Cream shortening, sugar and spices together until fluffy. Beat Jn eggs, one at a time. Resift flour with baking powder and salt. Add to shortening-sugar mixture, alternately with sour cream. Stir in oats. Add chocolate morsels, walnuts and raisins. Drop «okies from teaspoon onto very lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from baking sheet and oa>1 on cookie rack. Makes about eight dozen 2-inch cookies.

Teenagers Can Improve Posture
THE POSTURE of an adult Usually reflects the posture taught him’or acquired by him as a child and adolescent. An attractive posture is important to one’s own physical image of himself. Delicate grace of movement and general appearance, so significant i n today’s competitive society, can be enhanced by special attention to early training. The mechanical structure of the body is not Dr. Coleman a rigid, inflexf ible one. Movable bones and joints, normally In good alignment, must be maintained in their correct position by actively working for good posture. Acquired By Training Assuming that an individual has no special curvature of the spine, dislocation, of the hips or other anatomical disturbances, he can obtain good posture with training. While walking, standing, sitting or carrying heavy parcels, there is an ideal position of the body that every teenager can easily acquire by following some elniple suggestions. The Department of Education Of the American Medical Association has compiled an excellent outline of practical rules for better posture. Wallace A. Wesley, writing for the A.M.A., has made the following contribution to better health through better posture. Psychological as well as physical benefits should accrue if these suggestions are followed: STANDING: 1. Feet slightly apart; weight balanced on both feet; toes Straight fl-hreid.
2. Knees straight, relaxed. . 3. Hips tucked; abdomen flat. 4. Chest slightly up and for* ward. 5. Neck and head balanced over the body, chin in; stretch up at the back of the neck and head. WALKING: (shoes must fit) 1. Toes straight ahead. 2. Feet parallel and close together as you step. 3. Push forward with the back foot 4. Control the length of the step for an even, rhythmio stride. 5. Place the heel first In stepping, followed by the outside portion of the sole and by the forefoot. 6. Swing arms easily. SITTING: 1. Feet flat on floor. 2. Thighs supported by chair as far as the curve of the knee. 3. Back supported by chair back; body straight from hips to necK. WORKING: 1. Stand erect, balanced and relaxed. 2. Correct working heights to prevent slumping or excessive reaching. 3. Lifting a. Stand close to tne object. b. Draw it close to your center of gravity. C. Lift with the strong muscles of legs, shoulders. d. Shift body balance at base to accomgnodate added weight.
