LET’S LOOK AT THE RECORD
Present City Administration officials, eager for another crack at four more years on the gravy train have made some ridiculous and completely false claims concerning their accomplishments during the past four years and have outlined a “pie in the sky” platform for the next four years.
HERE'S WHAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL DO FOR GREENCASTLE IN THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.
REPUBLICANS FIERCELY CHALLANGE THESE RIDICULOUS CLAIMS!
LET'S LOOK AT THE RECORD!
Claim:
9 Miles of New Paving on City Streets.
ONE MILE EQUALS 10 CITY BLOCKS. INSTEAD OF PAVING 9 MILES OR 90 BLOCKS, ONLY 7.1 MILES, APPROXIMATELY 70 CITY BLOCKS HAVE BEEN PAVED BY THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION. THE INDIANA STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT PAVED US 231 (IND. 43) FROM THE MONON TRACKS TO THE PENNSYLVANIA TRACKS (JACKSON, WASHINGTON AND BLOOMINGTON). STREETS IN URGENT NEED OF REPAIR WERE IGNORED TO PROVIDE PAVING FOR POLITICALLY FAVORED AREAS.
$550,000.00 Sewer Reconstruction Program to be Completed This Year.
Completion of Major Interceptor Sewer and Sewer Extension, thus relieving overburdened sewers in various parts of city.
Fire Department Increased by One Salaried Fireman.
New Street Lighting Fixtures for Downtown.
IT WILL BE WELL INTO 1964 BEFORE THIS IS COMPLETED.
FAfT. SEWER SYSTEM ls hopelessly inadequate because rALl: OF POOR PLANNING AND EXECUTION OF THE WORK, EVEN NEW SEWER CONSTRUCTION. PROPERTY OWNERS IN NEWLY DEVELOPED RESIDENTIAL AREAS COMPLAIN CONSTANTLY THAT SEWERS DO NOT CARRY THE LOAD. OWNERS OF OLDER PROPERTY COMPLAIN EXISTING SEWERS ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR PRESENT DAY LOADS AND COST IS OUTRAGEOUS TO HOMEOWNERS. FACT* 0UR V0LUNTEER F,RE DEPARTMENT, CONSISTING OF * 24 VOLUNTEERS (AT NO EXPENSE TO CITY) HAS BEEN DISBANDED. FACT* THESE INCREASE TAXPAYERS’ COSTS BY $200.00 PER ' MONTH.
Expanded Public Recreation Program.
Claim:
Increased Rate of Residential and Commercial Construction Permits - 300 in 3^ years with total value of $7,500,000.00.
FACT: FACT:
LAND DONATED FOR ROBE-ANN PARK. SWIMMING POOL CONSTRUCTED AND DONATED TO CITIZENS OF GREENCASTLE BY LOCAL CIVIC ORGANIZATION. ONLY CONTRIBUTION MADE UNDER PRESENT ADMINISTRATION IS ONE SMALL SHELTER HOUSE. DURING REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION 3; YEARS PRIOR TO PRESENT ADMINISTRATION TAKING CONTROL, 321 PERMITS WERE ISSUED WITH A VALUE Of$8,500,000.00.
AND DON’T FORGET . . . YOU, THE TAXPAYERS, PAID FOR EVERY IMPROVEMENT FOR WHICH THESE “ADMINISTRATORS” ARE TAKING ALL THE CREDIT!
1. City spending will be held to present levels, despite increasing costs, through efficient, business-managed city government by qualified business men. Greencastle citizens will receive more for their tax dollars. Our Yearly Financial Report will show how each tax dollar is spent and there will be no transferring of funds from one category to another to conceal irresponsible and inexperienced handling of your funds. 2. We will construct an Ice Skating Rink for winter sports. Better and more picnic facilities will be added to Robe-Ann Park. Only trained lifeguards will be employed at the pool. With better supervision, our park can once again become a place for a family gatherings without embarrassment. 3. We will establish a long-range plan for street improvement, to be carried out over a four-year period, not a plan put into operation just a few months before election in order to curry favor and gain votes. Streets will be repaired on a basis of need, rather than as political favors. We will provide better maintenance of sidewalks all over town, with dearly defined crosswalks for pedestrians. 4. We recognize that downtown parking facilities are a civic responsibility, With the advice of downtown merchants and civic-minded citizens, we will provide parking space to meet the needs of our expandng community. 5. City Zoning Ordinances will be reviewed, with the possible repeal of impractical sections. Ordinances retained and any new ones enacted will be strictly enforced. 6. Chief of Police will be appointed according to law, which states Chief must be named from the ranks and must have at least 5 years of service. All police officers will be given a training program provided by the FBI and Indiana State Police at no cost to the taxpayers. In addition, a Juvenile Officer, trained in his profession, will be appointed to handle increasing number of juvenile offenses. 7. A complete survey of existing sewage disposal will be made by trained engineers, and a plan will be developed to correct present defects and replace outmoded sewers. 8. A full-time Mayor will be available to the citizens of Greencastle at all times. This important post as the head of the city government deserves a man capable of vigorous leadership, one who is experienced in administraton, an able speaker, who can greet the many great and well-known people who come to our city, and a man who can satisfactorily represent our city throughout the state and nation. Yes, These Improvements Will Be Hade With Your Money. But We Make Our Pledge To You of Careful Guardianship, Sound Disbursement and the Most Effective Use of Your Money!
IF YOU'RE SICK AND TIRED OF EMPTY PROMISES AND THE INEXPERIENCED BUNGLING OF THE PRESENT CITY ADMINISTRATION, YOU CAN GET RID OF THEM!
