HORSE RESCUED FROM EXCAVATION—Members of the New York police emergency squad work to free Gothels, a police horse from Troop B, after the animal plunged through wooden planks covering an excavation hole in Washington Square South. Mounted patrolman Mathew Cashman, riding Gothels at the time, was treated at St. Vincent’s Hospital for head and arm injuries. It took more than an hour to eet the horse out of 10-fnnt hola.
