Four new half-beds for city firemen have been installed in the fire department building for the use of the firemen. New bed clothing for the beds also was purchased. City fire expect to put the new outfits into use Saturday evening. According to the Fire Chief, the old beds have been in use since the fire department was organized and are somewhat the worse for age and wear. The new beds will improve

the looks of the fire department sleeping quarters and also add to comfort of the firemen. Unlike some places (California) Russellville high school girls will wear stockings—but they won’t be to silk. This momentous question was settled last Friday at a mass meeting attended by all the girls in the highschool. With only two or three dissenting voices the girls voted to put a ban on silk hose for this school year.

A daughter was born Friday at the Putnam County Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kurtz, 722 Crescent Court. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Winslow,, of Beech Grove, are the parents of a son born Friday at the Putnam County Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Morris West, Spencer Route 2, became the parents of a daughter Saturday morning at the Putnam County Hospital. The Cro-Tat-Em Club will meet at Robe Ann Park Wednesday at noon for the annual picnic. Members be certain to bring gifts for the Bingo game. William Scott. 29, Indianapolis, was lodged in the Putnam County jail at 4:50 Friday afternoon by State Trooper Jack H mlon on a public intoxication charge. The Maple Heights Home Demonstration Club will have a family picnic Sunday, Aug. 18th, 6 p.m. at Robe Ann Park. Please bring a well filled basket and own table service . Captain and Mrs. Henry Croft and their daughters Ktren and Paula have returned to their homes in Duluth, Minnesota after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Whitman and the relatives.

Police Battle Negro Youths Negro teen-agers, enraged over a huge sign saying “Nigger go home,” kicked, scratched and mauled police in Elizabeth, N. J. Friday in another violent civil rights demonstration. Fists flew and several policemen were knocked to the ground and kicked. The demonstrators, boys and girls and some first-graders, became incensed over a sign with letters two feet high and 25 feet long which said: "Nigger go home, go home, where ever you live.” Eighty of the demonstrators were booked, and of these only three were adults.
